Sorry, Darrell, but I think you're wrong. It's important that we be able to express our feelings and who better than with "family." Let your patriotism show. John Hawkins
We are all shocked and upset about last week's tragedy. Despite that, I would like to suggest that we restrict this forum to genealogy exchange. There are all sorts of other venues for discussion of current news, politics, etc. Darrell Blue
I think this merits a response. I copied this release from the Cablevision Web site. People really should get facts before forwarding stuff. Bethpage, NY, September 19, 2001 BETHPAGE, NY, September 19, 2001 - Cablevision Systems Corporation today released the following statement from James L. Dolan, president and chief executive officer: "A News 12 policy regarding the wearing of flags on newscasts has generated criticism in many quarters and has stirred conflict within the company as a whole. While there are flags flying throughout all company buildings and widely displayed by employees of every division, News 12 has determined that its independence of judgment could be thought to be compromised by the appearance of flags on display in the newsroom. Though we may disagree with this judgment, we stand firmly by the importance of our news division making its own decisions about the content of its newscasts. "As we see today, occasional disagreements with corporate can be a hallmark of an independent news organization. "For our own part, Cablevision supports the use of the flag both by the company and its employees to show support for everyone affected by last week's tragedy, and we are distributing flags to each of our 24,000 employees."
More unpatriotic junk. These stations should be boycotted. I work for a state insurance dept. and my job takes me in daily contact with NCCI. Yes, this happened. I don't always agree with NCCI and, frankly, I'm glad I don't work FOR them--but there is a little more to the story than is being reported. I was on a conference call today with Bill Schrempf, many NCCI top brass, and almost all of the states that use NCCI for workers' comp info. The scoop is this--NCCI has a long-standing policy of not allowing personal displays of religious or political nature. The reason is that they had an employee several years ago that did a display showing support for the SERBS during their war with Croatians. They felt that this was not appropriate to the workplace and, in fact, had some employees that were of Croatian descent and it could have caused many problems--so they banned this type of display. What happened Friday is that several people brought in flags to display. One person brought a large flag and was asked to remove it because they were going to display it by putting pins into their cubicle wall (which damages the wall). They refused their immediate supervisor's request. It sounds like there was a disagreement between the supervisor and the employee and the supervisor suspended the employee. This was done without talking to human resources or his supervisor. Emotions were running high. In fact, NCCI allowed employees to attend memorial services during business hours Friday and had their own display of the flag. None of the upper "brass" even knew this was happening until late Friday afternoon--and as soon as it was known, they voted to change the policy--but it was too late Friday. I am not a big fan of NCCI--but I think they are not getting a fair shake here. -----Original Message----- From: Bill Caddell [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2001 10:45 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [GREEN-L] Re: GREEN-D Digest V01 #256 UPDATE NCCI Changes Position, Gives Employees American Flags (Boca Raton, FL) NCCI Holdings, Inc., today announced that it has changed its position on flags in its workplace and offered any employees who wanted them American flags and red-white-and-blue lapel ribbons as they entered the workplace this morning. A Canadian's Tribute to America Yes, Canadian Gordon Sinclair expressed his heartfelt appreciation of the United States of America in a seemingly timely editorial now circulating by email. But Sinclair, dead since 1984, wrote the piece almost 30 years ago, not this week. http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blamericans.htm

Looking for the burial site of Alston Hunter Greene and his wife Mary Lou Hunnicutt. Alston Hunter GReene and wife were both from Fulton County. He was born in 1851, son of Comer Clement Clay Greene. She was the daughter of Calvin W. Hunnicutt. I do not believe they were buried in the Greene family Cemetery or at Oakland where the Hunnicutt site is. He died on 20 Feb. 1928 and she on 10 Jan 1953. Thought about the Fulton Historical society but they are closed till the 11th the day I'm leaving to go through Atlanta. Can anyone help me out. Thank you all Richard Greene Palo Alto CA.

A year ago, in desperation, I ran an ad in the Mt Vernon Register News asking for anyone who was related to the Green's in Jefferson Co to contact me and give me the furthest back they had on their family. I received a few good calls. One of them was from a man in Bluford Illinois who gave me Franklin Green's phone number in Pa. I didn't think Franklin's Green's were MY Green's, BUT I was in contact with a woman in Los Angeles who was looking for Green's also and his info appeared to pertain to her family. I e-mailed her Franklin's phone number and she contacted him. I'm sending what she sent me that she got from him. I thought it might be of interest to someone on this board. Once again, we've lost someone who spent years of his life "diggin' in bones". I hope someone in his family puts what he'd collected to good use. I live in Jefferson Co and will save his obit to see if there's a family member I can contact later and see what their plans are for his information. At the very least, I know the lady in Los Angeles has the information he sent her last year, at least I hope she kept it. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE!!!!!!!!! SHARON RECEIVED 6-21-2000 Called Franklin Green of Pittsburgh this morning. He is the great grandson of Paulus Euriah. Franklin is son of Roy Lee Green, son of Clinton Green, son of Paulus. Anyway.....Franklin does sound like he's up there in years. His memory seemed to come in waves. He has written/compiled a book of the Greens :-) with a descendant of Charlie Green who was brother to Clinton. Franklin asked that I call him again tomorrow and he'll have information ready for me. RECEIVED 7-3-2000 Ok Sharon...you must be physic as the mailman brought me an envelope containing 48 pages from Franklin Green. It appears to focus on the descendants of Henry Green. So bear with me as I try to pull out the "lineage" information. This is just the basics. Henry born 1799 NC married Elizabeth______born 1800 VA. Their respective parents unknown. Children (all likely born Robertson Co. TN) are: MARTHA A. 1826, m. William Woodard. PAULUS URIAH (aka Paulus Euriah) born Feb 1 1829, d. Dec 13, 1870 Jefferson Co., IL. Buried Atkinson Cemetery near Bluford. SARAH C. born 1832, m. 1852 John W. Watts. ROBERT, born 1834. FRANCES, born 1835. ALEXANDER, born 1836. ALBERT E., born 1839. Living with Paulus in 1860. Paulus Uriah Green (1829-1870), m. ca 1852 in TN to Rhoda A. Simmons. She was born March 16 1834 TN and died Jan 20 1912 in Bluford. She and Uriah are buried in Atkinson Cemetery. There children are: SUSAN F. GREEN born Dec 20 1853 in TN and died Jan 5 1888 in Mt. Vernon, buried Atkinson. Married Aug 1882 to Charles Young. Her obit ran in the Jan 11 1888 edition of The Mount Vernon Register. (Franklin includes the obit, but I'll skp that). She left a baby and husband. They had been married "five years last August." (This ain't my Susan!!) JAMES CLINTON born Dec 23 1854, died April 14 1920 in Bluford. Buried Black Oak Ridge Cemetery. WILLIAM ALBERT born Oct 12 1856 and died Nov 18 1935 in Baker Co Oregon. Buried Haines Cemetery. RUFUS HENRY born 1859 and died 1895-1900 in Baker Co OR. Buried Rock Creek Cemetery. CHARLES EDGAR born Aug 8 1861 and died Aug 8 1939 in Malden, Dunklin Co, MO. Buried Steven Chapel Cemetery near Malden. DAVID ALEXANDER born 1863 and died 1920. Buried Atkinson Cemetery. JOHN ROBERT born Jan 31 1865 and died Nov 29 1938 in Bluford. CHARLOTTE WILMOTH "Wilma", bornApril 1868 and died April 11, 1933 in Lilbourn, New Madrid Co., MO. Married Seth Monroe Bodine. Franklin also includes PUGs last will and testament which was signed April 8 1870. It was signed Uriah Green and was recorded in Jefferson Co. Wife Rhoda A. Green was listed. No mention of children's names. Witnessed by Wm H. Simmons, Henry M. Richards, L.D. Munselle, and J.W. Watts. The will was filed Feb 4 1871. On Feb 23, L.D. Munselle filed an affidavit of death in which is said that PUG died on or about Dec 14 1870. On March 3 1871, Willis F. Atwood filed papers relinquishing his co-executor duties. There are some court notes included regarding this will. Mort Allen Green made a statement. Mort was born 1878, the son of James Clinton Green, son of PUG. Mort said that he (Clinton) had 5 brothers named Willie, Charlie, Rufus, Alec and John Green and two sisters Susan and Wilmouth. Rhoda raised turkeys and geese! Rhoda's obit was found in the "Campground" new column in the Mt. Vernon Daily Register of Wed Jan 24 1912. She was 78, born in TN, married "there" to Uriah Green. Surviving children (of Illinois) are Alexander, John, Mrs. Wilmeth Bodine, and Charles. The other out of state children were not listed. Info from "Roda Greens" death cert is also included. It says she died Jan 20 (conflicts with two newspaper notices by one day) in Bluford. It was filed May 28 1912 in Jefferson Co. Father listed as ______Simmons. Informant was John Robert Green. Franklin appears to have sent information regarding James Clinton, William Albert, Rufus Henry, Charles Edgar and his children William Edgar, Winnie Edna, Robert Earl, Nellie Rovis, Thomas English, Earnest Pearl, Reedy Arthur, Dewey Lee, and Effie Grace. Oh, and there are a few things about PUGs kids David Alexander, John Robert, and Charlotte. There is definately too much stuff for me to transcribe. My butt would go numb. Want copies? Franklin said he would answer my questions (which included, "Do you know of Pinkney Green?") in a subsequent letter. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2001 4:00 AM Subject: ILJEFFER-D Digest V01 #154 ______________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2001 1:02 AM Subject: GREEN-D Digest V01 #244
