Robert Robinson Green, my ggggrandfather, born August 10, 1811 at Kettle Creek, Cumberland County, Kentucky. Parents and siblings are ujnknown and have remained elusive for many, many years!!!! 1810 census of Cumberland County, Kentucky shows only two Green households--a Robert and a George. The Robert is a better fit. Between 1810 and 1820 a Robert Green and wife Elizabeth sold some land. In 1820 census there is no Robert Green, but there is an Eizabeth with children that fit the Robert family from 1810 plus one that could be my Robert R. Here the trail goes cold!!! There is nothing to link Robert R. to these people with any certainty. Where the family was after 1820 is a mystery. They are not in Cumberland County in 1830. There was one mention of Missouri along the way. I do know for a fact that Robert Robinson Green was in southwestern Wisconsin, near Platteville, by July 4, 1832. This is the date he enlisted for service in Captain Irvin O'harra's unit of volunteer militia for the Black Hawk War. Whether he travelled to Wisconsin alone as a young man, or with family members is uncertain. I do find a Benjamin and an Emerson Green in the vicinity although I lose Emerson quickly. Benjamin appears to be a year older than Robert, also born Kentucky and in 1836 was living just a few households away. In 1834 Robert R. Green married Cinderella Farmer. I do not know her parents names. They reportedly had seven children, all but one dying before adulthod. Ihave only been able to document two. One son William born about 1835, shows on the 1850 census and died sometime after, probably before 1858. The pother, Robert Allen Green, born 1845, served in the 7th Wisconsin Infantry, part of the famed Iron Brigade, during the Civil War. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of the Wilderness and died shortly thereafter at Locust Grove Hospital, Wilderness Virginia in 1865. Wish I knew where he was buried!! In 1835, Robert purchased land in what is currently the far northwest corner of Lafayette County, Wisconsin, near the town of Belmont, which is near Platteville. This is where he resided until he went west about 1853. Cinderella Farmer Green died September 23, 1846. Robert Robinson Green married his second wife, Nancy Jane Ashmore, on March 16, 1847. Nancy was the daughter of Samuel M. C. Ashmore and Margaret Lovelace and was born in Coles or Clark County, Illinois. They were the parents of eight children. The first six or seven were born while the family was still living near Platteville, Wisconsin. The last one or two were bon after the family went west to Elk Point, Union County, South Dakota. They went west around 1863. Robert and Nancy Green's children are James Stanford 1848, Albert Shelton 1850, George Washington 1853, Eliza Caroline 1854, William Robert 1858, Ida Edith 1860, Nancy Jeanett 1863 (my gggrandmother), and Raphael Samuel 1871. Robert Robinson Green was involved in a murder in 1859 with some other men over a lead mining dispute. He served a year and a half at the Wisconsin State Prison in Waupun (it is still in operation!). He was granted a complete pardon by the Wisconsin governor. After he moved to Dakota territory, in addition to continuing farming (but not lead mining!), he operated the first store in Elk Point with a Mr. Fairchild for a few years. He also served two terms on the territorial legislature. Robert Green purchased land in South Dakota. Robert Robinson Green died September 27 1890 and his wife, Nancy Jane Ashmore Green died August 22, 1905. They are buried in the Elk Point Cemetery, Elk Point, South Dakota. I have sources for all of my information, as well as photographs of many of these people. I even have a copy of the Governor's pardon! Descendants have been easy--I currently have a database of about 1300. Please, please help with the ancestors if you can!! Joni Vella

Here is my Green/Greene line again. Since I last posted this I have made a little progress on Edmond, but finding his parents is an ongoing search. Edmond Green b. ca 1792 in Virginia. He shows up in Harrison Co., IN in 1820. He is not listed in the 1820 Federal Census there, but there is a marriage record dated 20Oct1820 for Edmond Green and Nancy Miles. (We are pretty sure this is Nancy Owens Miles, the widow of Joseph Miles, his will was probated in Harrison Co., IN on 3Jun1820.) Known children of Nancy and Edmond. (Very likey that there some earlier children than this.) 1)Hammon (or Hannon) b. ca. 1830 2)Permelian b. ca. 1832 3)Lucy Jane b. 8Aug1836 d. 5Feb1895 Marion Co.,IL She married Eli Roberts 19Jan1853 in Harrison Co,IN 4)Dr. Jacob W. b. ca.1838 d.24Feb1916 Nancy probably died 1838/39. Edmond married again 27Jun1839 also in Harrison Co., IN. The name listed is Cyntha Fortune, but Fortune/Fortian was probably from a previous marriage as she had at least to daughters with this name. There are numerous variations in the spelling of her first name. Cyntha, Cintha, Syntha, Cynthia etc. Known children of Cyntha and Edmond 1)Clement b.17Apr1840 d. 1Oct1921 Marion Co,IL m. Ester Powers 2)George F. b. ca. 1841 3)Ferdinand b. ca. 1843 4)Richard L. b. ca. 1845 m. Ellen _____ 5)William Miles b.July1849 d. 23Dec1932 Marion Co,IL m. Zilpha Jane Mulvaney 6)Henry E b. 1851 d.1930 m.1) Nancy Alderson m.2) Edith _____ Edmond died around 1857 in Harrison Co,IN. A number of his children relocated to Marion Co,IL after the Civil War. My line is from Lucy Jane Greene and Eli Roberts (it seems the spelling changed to Greene around this time.) Also in Harrison Co,IN Edmond had a neighbor by the name of Coleman Green. We have no proof, but are pretty sure that Edmond and Coleman are brothers. There are several references to different Coleman Greens in Virginia in the LDS records. Hoping one of those may help make a connection back to the next generation. If any of this looks familiar, let me know. Thanks Ron Hanks Decatur,IL
I was born in Caldwell ID and have traced my Green (with & without the final "e", sometimes found both ways in the same family) side back through ID, ND, MN, and NY. My father, g & gg fathers were all Allen Green(e)s. My ggg-father Nelson Rodney Green, born 25 July 1820 in NY, died in Hutchinson MN 23 Jun 1896. Family legend says his father was also Nelson, living in northern NY(Lewis, Jefferson, St Lawrence counties), heading west in 1860's. I am searching for info on his parents. Facts I have: GREEN, Nelson Rodney (b 25July1820 NY, d 23June1896 Hutchinson, McLeod Co, MN) m COATS, MaryAdelia (b 4June1826 St Lawrence Co, NY d 14November1901 Lake Hook, McLeod Co, MN). I've asked before, but it's been awhile. Does anyone know anything about Josiah Green (1801-1891) who married Fanny Norman (1801-1872) Feb. 6, 1823 in Maury Co., TN? They had several children and eventually migrated to southwestern IL (Christian/Montgomery Counties). I have been unable to find anything about this couple's parents or siblings and would appreciate any clue someone might be able to share. Their oldest child was John Newton Green (1824 TN -1897 IL) who married Elizabeth Thomason Dec. 14, 1841. Thank you for your help. Sandy VanWiggeren Greer, SC
Looking for information on William Armstrong Green - born February 15, 1839 in Mifflin County, PA. He is the son of William Green and Esther Armstrong. William Armstrong Green married Sarah Henrietta Carroll (daughter of Ferdinand Carroll and Lorinda Thompson) October 8, 1872 in Grant County, Wisconsin. Their children, Anna Lucy b. 1873, Kate L. b. 1875, Jesse W. b. October 31, 1876 Bremer Co., Iowa, Ralph b. January 4, 1882, Elizabeth (Bessie) Helen Green b. January 4, 1887 in Bremer Co., Iowa. Jesse W. Green was a Justice of the Peace in Dubuque after he retired from the railroad. Elizabeth married Christian Anthony Fosselman in Waverly, Iowa. There is some family memory of a relative of William Green being related to a Green that served as a blacksmith for George Washington. I know nothing more about this family. Would love any more information on any of this Green Family. Thanks, Roberta W.

I have been reading with interest all the messages on the Green List but haven't been able to connect on any of them yet. I am especially interested in the Lewis Green line that had a Nathaniel as a brother, or any other Nathaniel Green in that family. I have been looking for my gr grandfather, Nathaniel Green for a very long time. He was born in Virginia in 1822, came to Clay County, Indiana in 1857 and married a Charlotte WOOLF ELY in 1858. People researching Greens in SW Virginia must have ran into the name Muncy, or a variation thereof. My paternal gr grandparents were Greens, my maternal gr grandparents were Muncys, all from Virginia. I believe they were friends many years ago. While reading the roosters of troops serving in the forts of SW Virginia in 1774, in Dunmore's War, I found the names of Samuel Muncey (Jr.) and his brother Holton Muncey. On the same rooster were the names of Lewis Green (Jr.) and I believe his brother Zachariah Green. One Peter Muncy came to Clay County, Indiana also and named his last son, Lewis Green Muncy. (That Samuel Muncey, Jr was a 4th gr grandfather, Peter his son.) Would be really nice to find someone knowing about this Nathaniel Green from Virginia, born 1822!!! Selma & All: Yes, I've heard that Lewis was married before he married Elizabeth CADDEL. Does anyone have info on his prior spouse? This is all I have on Lewis GREEN: 1787 - September 13, Charles Trim to Lewis Green sale of 240 acres for £120 on Cobb Creek of South Hico adjacent to Andrew CADDLE, witnessed by John Cannady, H. She was previously married to Lewis Green, now deceased. 1799 - March, Person County, NC record of settlement of estate of Lewis Green, by Elijah Watson, Administrator, in right of his wife, Elizabeth. A genealogist reported "Even before Caswell County, NC was formed from Orange County in 1777, we find that Lewis Green lived in the area. A ford on the Dan River had been named after him and we find mention of this in the 1764 Orange County records." Lewis GREEN sold goods to travelers on the River. II.4. Andrew, her father was listed as bondsman at both her marriages. She later lived in Person County which was formed from Caswell County in 1791, where she married for a second time, living there at least until 1800. One researcher reported Elijah WATSON listed in the 1800 census of Wake County, NC with three sons and three daughters (born between 1785 and 1800), 1810 census of Person with two sons and 1820 with one son. Another, reported that Elizabeth was still living in the 1850 census of Person County. Lewis' parents were William and (1st wife unknown) Green. William Green named Lewis as his son in a land deed, Sussex County, VA, on the south sluce of Nottoway River. In about 1750, William Green married Lucy Tyus (his 2nd wife). Elizabeth and Lewis had two children: Barbara Green (1792, Caswell Co., NC) married John Stephenson and Jane Green (1790, Caswell Co., NC). Janie inherited land on Double Creek of the Hico River from her father. Janie Green married John Washington Stanfield 25 Sep 1810, Person County, NC and had a son Washington Green Stanfield. I am researching two lines of Green's. The first is PRUDENCE GREEN. She > married JOHN MERRITT JR. of Franklin Co., North Carolina. She died 04 July > 1838. I need to know who her parents are and their lineage. She's buried in > the old Merritt Cemetary in Kittrell, Vance Co., North Carolina. Second is > JEREMIAH GREEN of Cocke Co., Tennessee. He had two daughters DORCAS ANGELINE > and REBECCA GREEN that married two VALENTINE brothers HENRY and WILLIAM > VALENTINE in Cocke/Sevier Co., Tennessee. I supposed that this JEREMIAH > GREEN was some way connected to the JEREMIAH GREEN that migrated to western > North Carolina, but cannot find the connection. Any help is appreciated. > > Charlie Rathbun > 276 Winchester Ridge N > Jasper, Ga 30143 Charlie Rathbun 276 Winchester Ridge N Jasper, Ga 30143
I put the wrong date down for Frederick Green birth. It's the 1860 Lawrence Co, census that shows his age as 50. Therefore he was born abt 1810. Sorry about that. [email protected]
I'm trying to find a connection to my Lewis Green ,Sr born 1724in Prince George Co,Va died 1785 Glascow Ky who married Elizabeth Sarah Lauderdale in Va. He lived along the Clinch River near a William Lauderdale who we believe was Elizabeths father. They married around 1750. He served in the French Indian war at age 30 (which verifies his birthdate as 1724 not as I've seen 1710) This Green I've seen tied to the Burwell and Griggs families and he did have a grandson named Burwell. families verified tied to this Lewis and Elizabeth Lauderdale Green are: Kilgore,Cowan,Hutchinson,Porter,Hager,Wells,Butcher,Lauderdale,Walker and several more. Anybody have anything to link this Lewis Green to a set of Parents?
I have two sides of my Green family. John C. Green born 1804 Va, Married I think Eliza Ann Jordon also from Va. John C Green's parents could possibly be William who married a Mary Ann Crockett. Siblings above are named on will Other side of my family: Frederick Green who married a Rutha Dial in Lawrence CO. TN. in 1840 Fred born in Ga. abt 1800. Children of that marriage:All born in Lawrence Co are: Martha J abt 1841 William A 1843 married Angenettie or Jenny Jamison Benetta M 1846 James Gideon 1849 Amanda G abt 1851 Martha J abt 1841 Frederick was also married to a Susan Steane in March 1863 Somewhere He evidentially married someone in abt 1835 as he also had the following children: John Littleton Green born abt 1837 Lawrence Co. TN Susanna E Green 1839 Lawrence Co. With the John C Green line, I have his children's marriages and their heirs. Would appreciate any help on two lines above. [email protected]
