Someone sent it to me thinking it was my Henry Vaughan Tattersall, but sadly, it isn't. This H.V. Tattersall was a Private GS/5614 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays). In the photograph he is mounted on his horse, with a helmet and gas mask, all sorts tied round his waist, a 'spear' in his right hand, and it looks as though there may be a rifle on the other side of him. It is a haunting, very atmospheric photograph. >From FreeBMD, it could be Harold Vaughan Tattersall, Sept 1887, Barnet 3a 221, or Herbert Vernon Tattersall, June 1888, Eccleshall B, 9c 376, or one of what looks like twins - same page and reference number: Hargreaves Victor Tattersall, Harold Vernon Tattersall, Dec 1891, Rochdale 8e 72. If anyone is a descendant or relative of H.V., or if anyone would like a copy of this photo, please send me your email address, off list. jane@marriott.org.uk Best wishes, Jane ++++++++ Forwarded to the Rootsweb GREATWAR list in hopes that Jane can connect with generous listers of the GREATWAR list. Here's hoping we can find a home for the gentleman in the photo and cheers for Jane's kindness. Appreciate everyone's thoughts/suggestions. ....
