Dear List, As the originator of the question that prompted the recent exchange of views, perhaps you would bear with me as I respond with my perspective. Patrick Holland writes: Actually I only sent in my comments because I was annoyed at the way that Tullock-Marshall ' s sneeringly put down the individual who first started this thread about the way he worded his posting. For the record, I took absolutely no offence at Tom's comments. Even if I had, I would have raised the matter with him privately 'off list' as I think list postings should be restricted to Great War matters. The List has been an immense help to my researches. Long may it continue. Derrick Parsons
Dererick, If Tullock-Marshall had replied to you off list concerning his opinion about the poverty of your posting then none of the rigmarole and acrimony that followed your posting would have transpired. Tullock-Marshall has been around long enough to know that so he should have made his comments off line. He chose not to. I must say that the lucidity of this posting from you surprises me in comparison with the style and content of the posting which upset Tullock-Marshall so much. Are you sure that it was your posting that set him off ? At the time, I did 'nt recognise the name of the individual who had contributed the 'explosive' posting but I certainly remember seeing your name before so I 'm sure that I would have noted it if that posting had come from you.
