Gunner's Mate 1st Class, Osmond Kelly Ingram's ship was the destroyer USS Cassin DD43, hit by a torpedo fired from a German U-Boot U-61 off the coast of Ireland on 16 Sep 1917, making Ingram the first official US naval casualty in WWI. Around here, they actually used to teach that sort of thing in the public schools. They renamed West Park "Kelly Ingram Park," and there was a statue.
