Let me try and elucidate a sort of complicated problem, which other countries are also probably facing. There are two known members of the Canadian expeditionary Force alive: Corporal John Babcock, Boy's Battalion Private Dwight Wilson, 69th Battery, CFA There are two known veterans of the Great War living in Canada Private Dwight Wilson, 69th Battery, CFA, CEF Gladys Powers, Women's Royal Air Force (rank unknown) The problem comes because Babcock has lived in Spokane, Washington, USA since about 1940; Powers has lived in Canada since 1920. So ... are either of them 'Canadian' veterans? Is Powers still looked upon as British in the UK (she was 'lost' for a long time, and then declared dead!) And I wonder if somewhere there is somebody else keeping very quiet, like the Japanese survivors who stayed in the jungle for many years. Peter
