I have been watching this discussion and feel compelled to comment on the aspect of it which concerns what is, and what is not, said in "Wikipedia." I wonder if those citing this on-line encyclopedia as a source of irrefutable information have ever read the entry in it for "Wikipedia?" I've given you the URL below and also included an edited selection from the definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia "Wikipedia (IPA: /ˌwikiˈpiːdi.ə/ or /ˌwɪkiˈpiːdi.ə/ <snip> is a multilingual, web-based, free content encyclopedia project. Wikipedia is written collaboratively by volunteers; its articles can be edited by ANYONE with access to the web site. <snip> Wikipedia was launched as the English Wikipedia on January 15, 2001, as a complement to Nupedia, an expert-written and now defunct encyclopedia. <snip> It has steadily risen in popularity since its inception,[7] and currently ranks among the top ten most-visited websites worldwide.[8] Critics have questioned Wikipedia's reliability and accuracy.[9] The site has also been criticized for its susceptibility to vandalism,[10] uneven quality, systemic bias and inconsistencies,[11] and for favoring consensus over credentials in its editorial process.[12] Wikipedia's content policies[13] and sub-projects set up by contributors seek to address these concerns.[14] Two scholarly studies have concluded that vandalism is generally short-lived[15] and that Wikipedia is roughly as accurate as other encyclopedias.[16]" While there is no doubt that this is a popular (top ten) web site and it is undoubtedly useful, the origins of it's content MUST be remembered. It must be considered only as a consensus of popular opinion, with a strong possibility of temporary(?) personal bias at any particular time. It is not an unimpeachable source of the World's "truth." In situations where the information it contains appears controversial or "misguided" you have the potential to edit the content and correct the "wrong." You also, however, should expand your researches to find independent corroboration of your opinion of "truth." Sorry to run off-topic, but we need to be educated as to our sources when using the Internet. Malcolm Archive CD Books Canada Inc. President: Malcolm Moody PO Box 11 Manotick Ontario, K4M 1A2 Canada.
