Greetings, Could any kind lister help me with tracing my grandfather who, although Australian joined the Royal Army Medical Corps, as a result of a request for 100 doctors from Lord Kitchener at the beginning of 1915. Alan Pryde, M.B. --------------- So we now know that he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the RAMC on 17 Mar 1915. RAMC The date on which temp. Lt. Henry C. Colville, M.B., relinquished his commn. is 7th May 1916, and not as in the Gazette of 10th Apr. 1916. ------------------ There's no reason why he relinquished his commission though. Service Records for WW1 officers generally appear in the WO 339 and WO 374 series at the National Archives, and there is a leaflet at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=6 You can search the national Archives' catalogue at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp but I couldn't see a suitable entry for him. Not all records have survived, and not all records have been released to the public. Since he was a doctor, I suggest you look through contemporary editions of the Medical Directory and Medical Register, and hopefully you'll find something about his medical career.
