He m. Sarah V. Schemerhorn/Scamehorn b. 1806 VA, on 18 Apr 1829 in Muskingum Co., Ohio. All their children were born in Ohio, some of them in Licking Co., OH. John was last located in Chillicothe, Ross Co., Ohio in 1850 with Sarah and 5 children - Elias, Fidelia, Zanes/James, William & Louisa. We can find no further record for this couple, our 3rd gr-grandparents. Elias, our gr-gr-grandfather, and his brother William, lived, married, died, and are buried in Ross Co., Ohio, but we lost track of their parents & siblings. We have much information on their descendants. Elias Schermerhorn of Ross County was most likely a brother or cousin of Sarah V. Schermerhorn. He is buried in the 3 Locks Cemetery in Ross Co. with his wife. It is possible that Elias Grable was named for his uncle/cousin, Elias Schermerhorn. That is great you had contact with Jane Anderson. My dad kept in touch with all his Graybill cousins over the years. (He passed away in 2007.) All his cousins were very special to him because he used to spend summers with them as a kid. I have been fortunate enough to have inherited all of my dad's and grandfather Shank's genealogy files and photos of which there are many. I have individual photos of all the Graybill children, i.e. Joyce, Anna, Florence, Elizabeth, John and Ruth. In my dad's files there is a copy of your grandfather John's obit, a Christmas card from your mother with family photo when you were perhaps 8-10 and a family Ramsey portrait in front of a garage. My dad never met a photo he did not like!!! Now that we have two little grandchildren, I find less time for my genealogy work but am committed to digitizing and archiving all this wonderful material for future generations. I so appreciate what was handed down to me but it need! s a bit of organizing. I would be happy to share. I have not posted anything on ancestry, partly because I have 700 names in my private tree maker and I just do not know where to start. But the Graybill and Haldeman history is fascinating. Would love to keep in touch! Mary Ann Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My g-grandfather was also John Sassman Graybill so Kurt and I would be second cousins. My grandmother was Elizabeth Virginia Graybill, his daughter. She married Clyde Updegraff Shank. His son and my father William Haldeman Shank contributed the photo of the family to the Graybill family history book of which I have a copy. :-) I looked up Bryan's gggGrandfather John G. Graybill listed as John Graybill Graybill (1820-1872) and note his father was Jacob Graybill b 2 June 1792- d 9 mar 1844 who married Mary Graybill (first cousin) 6 apr 1819. Jacob's father was also Jacob Graybill b 9 jun 1761 d 20 apr 1829. (This Jacob was my and Kurt's gggggrandfather, according to the book.) The notations in red are from my research...Wildwood does not keep good records. I haven't been able to connect our George W Graybill to Thomas (son of Herman Graybill & Susanna Baughman Graybill) & Susan Graybill, but I've got a strong suspicion, because Susanna Baughman Graybill divorced Herman Graybill and married a George Zeiders and they had a George (age 9)and Mary Graybill living with them (grandchildren) in 1860. Herman & Susanna had 3 children...Thomas, Mary and Laura (I think). That means that George and Mary more than likely belong to Thomas. The Thomas and Susan Graybill that you mentioned are found in 1850 with a son, Henry. I could not find them in 1860 or after, so I am assuming that Thomas, Susan and Henry died and then George and Mary went to their grandmother, Susanna. My husband hails from So. Williamsport, PA and I've tracked his ancestors back to George W. Graybill, Sr 18! 52-1927. He was in the Selinsgrove area at age 19 with the Peter Albert household as a shoemaker apprentice. I've not yet found any link between Norton Graybill and George W. Graybill. My ancestry tree is Graybill Family Tree - New, if you wish to check it out for the Graybill line that we are linked to. If I come across anything related to yours, I'll let you know. Thanks, Lynn. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There is a Thomas Graybill, living with or married to a Susan Graybill. In that household are Amanda Griggs, George Griggs, Emeline Griggs and Clara Griggs. I believe this Susan Graybill was formerly married to a James Griggs. I haven't found where or when James Griggs or Susan Griggs/Graybill/Lenig or Lettig died. So I was trying to get any clues through the obituary/ death date/ death location of Thomas Graybill. There is a listing on the 1860 census of Juiata(?) You mentioned a George Graybill in your posting. I have a feeling that your Norton and our George may be related, but not brothers. In case you haven't found it yet, the US census records from the 1850, 60 and 70 (Pennsylvania) reflect Norton and Letitia living with Susan Lettig and others, but I didn't notice a George.
