Hi Ronald, There is probably no connection(but we all live in hope) but I have a Catherine Grainger/Granger possibly born in Newcastle on Tyne in abt 1844 who came to NZ in 1869.Before she left her parents were living in a village named Washington just over the border from Newcastle-on Tyne.
