His father was named James Grainger, and he had an older brother named William, born around 1840. John and William's mother was named Emma (Grainger may have been her maiden name), according to John's death certificate. I did find my John Grainger, his wife Elizabeth nee Cox and their children in the 1881 census, living at Wallace Street, Kingswinford, Stafford, England. Then, the lead dries up. He and his family eventually emmigrated to West Virginia/Eastern Ohio, then to Alabama between 1885 and 1895.
