My grandmother was Rosaline Emily Grainger. She was born in London or one of the home counties sometime in the 1880s. Her father was called Robert and her sisters included Emily and Violet. My mother told me once that Rosaline Emily was a cousin to the composer and pianist Percy Grainger so Robert Grainger should have been Percy's father John Grainger's brother. Does anyone know anything about this family? I believe they came to the London area from County Durham sometime in the nineteenth century and that they are related to the Newcastle builder Richard Grainger. > -----Original Message----- > From: Danby648@cs.com [SMTP:Danby648@cs.com] > Sent: 06 June 2000 02:48 > To: GRAINGER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [GRAINGER] Re: Posting How To: > > Hello all! > Just a little reminder on how to post your message to our list. When Thomas B. Grainger was born in 1785, his father was probably ready to hand out cigars!! At least, he probably would have, if there had been any to hand out!! But who was the father of Thomas?? And who was his mother?? Did he; like most of us, have grand-parents? If so, who were they?? Did he have siblings? The next thing which we know of, in his life, was his wedding!! At the age of 19, he married Miss Margaret Lilley, in Sumner Co., Tennessee. Did he travel alone to TN, or did his family go that way, while he was younger? Was Miss Margaret's family on the move, from NC to TN, as he was?? These two have provided one more mystery for the GEN crowd to ponder!! Are you pondering?? Please do, and if you can help, it would be so nice of you!!! Thanks. Joe Duke

My name is Kylie Callinan (nee Grainger) and my Great Great Grandfather was John Thomas Grainger born in Kent, England in 1856. I was wondering if anyone out there might be related. Kylie

Hello all! Let's have a ROLL CALL this week! PLEASE include the STATE(s) and GIVEN NAME for the Grainger ancestor you are hunting IN THE SUBJECT LINE, and give more information about your ancestors, including dates, migration and spouse's surnames, in the message part of your post, so that you can get maximum benefit from this roll call. Maybe we can all connect! Please assist with any of the ROLL CALL posts that you possibly can. If we all focus together these next few days, we can maximize our efforts for the benefit of all of us. <snipped for relevant subscriber content-ss> Over the next few days and weeks, we'll be upgrading our two oldest listservers. What will this mean? Well, hopefully, it won't mean much except a better working mailing list. In fact, if this comes off the way we intend, you won't even notice when it happens. Important points: - No messages will be lost, though some may be delayed for half an hour or so. - No subscribe/unsubscribe commands will be lost, though they may be similarly delayed. -Taglines should work better on the new servers. They've been a bit buggy on the old servers. We're attempting to move most of the taglines from old to new, but due to the bugginess of the old software, some of the taglines may not survive.
Happy Mother's Day to all! Hope you guys didn't forget. <g> Stephanie
Just a note to tell you that I have a great deal of my family tree starting from Laurent Granger and Marie Landry from the time he arrived in Canada in 1657. Let me know if this is the same family that you need. Keith Granger
Welcome to the NEW Grainger Mailing List!!! Here is a copy of the new welcome email that is automatically generated to all new subscribers. Have any suggestions, ideas or corrections? Please let me know. If you have a great URL (or Grainger info., for that matter) that you'd like to see used in a rotating tag line beneath each message posted to the list, please send it to me for consideration. I'm not hard to convince:o) ~~~~~~~~~~~WELCOME TO THE GRAINGER MAILING LIST~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please, print and/or save this email message for future reference. WHAT IS THE GRAINGER MAILING LIST? Grainger. Please post anything related to the Grainger surname, history, lore and/or family traditions. Let us see your brickwalls, lost and found ancestors. It would be beneficial to all of us. HERE ARE A FEW GUIDELINES... 1. Profanity of any kind will not be tolerated. 2. Flaming will not be tolerated. You are welcome to totally express your opinion, but do it nicely and not at the expense of another individual. 3. Turn off HTML and RTF. 4. File attachments may not be sent to this list. If you have something to share, copy and paste it into your email message. If it is larger than 10K, divide it up and send it in several messages, marking each section, part 1, part 2, etc. 5. Please reply TO THE LIST, as it may be pertinent information to someone else. The settings for this list are currently set to reply to the sender. To reply to the list, simply move your cursor to the beginning of the address in the TO: section, delete the sender's address and insert the list address. ...GRAINGER-L@rootsweb.com Please post your surnames and brickwalls monthly. Stephanie Spaulding Grainger List Administrator GRAINGER-admin@rootsweb.com If you need help and cannot get me, or you are having trouble with the list, contact Pam Cresswell. <pam@cresswells.com> IF YOU HAVEN'T PRINTED AND/OR SAVED THIS EMAIL MESSAGE, PLEASE DO SO NOW! ---------------- You are currently subscribed in "mail mode," which means that you will receive every posting made to GRAINGER as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to GRAINGER-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is canceled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to GRAINGER-L-request@rootsweb.com. 3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to GRAINGER-L-request@rootsweb.com to discontinue mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to GRAINGER-D-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving digests. 4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again. 5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to GRAINGER-L@rootsweb.com. It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both. For your verification, a transcript of the original subscription request is included below. --
Posted on: GRAINGER Queries Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/surnames/g/r/GRAINGER/queries?read=3 Surname: Grainger, Mann ------------------------- I am just stating to trace my mother's line. She had an aunt, Bridget Mann who met & married a Grainger. We think she travelled to Chile to marry this man and lived there probably for the rest of her life. From deductions, I would guess she married between 1900/1910. About 30 years ago my mother received a letter from Patricio Grainger, Santiago, Chile who was researching his family, but she lost touch. Anyone recognising this family, please contact me.

Would like to hear from any Grainger's in the above areas. Have lots of names, dates and so forth from about 4-5 lines of Graingers but having a hard time putting families together. Will be glad to share what I have in exchange for your information. Gale Stanley Grainger
For those of you with ancestors from Grainger Co., Tennessee: I ordered the book..it is a beautiful book when it first was available, but none of my MANY ancestors who were born, married, buried in Grainger Co. TN are in the book. I questioned the committee and was told that unless some of your family submitted information for your family (before the book was published); there will not be anything in the book for your family. Perhaps you can check with someone who has the book before you buy it. I would be happy to do that for you but I have given my book to someone who did have relatives listed. Not criticizing; just trying to help. Perhaps the book committee could post some of this information to the Grainger list so prospective buyers will be aware of what is in the book before they buy it? Sincerely, Evelyn DANIEL/CROW Hansson Richmond, KY
