    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EEg.2ACIB/134 Message Board Post: I'm trying to find information about a Arthur Morley Grainger, I no he lived in Sydney NSW and was born on the 13-Nov-1888, but don't no if this was in Australia. He served during World War One with the Australian Artillery as a Major. I no that he and his sister travelled to New Zealand after the War, her name I believe was a Miss Nirah.B.Grainger. There father was a Mr T.L.Grainger, I have not been able to trace any of these people through Australian records and I believe Arthur Morley Grainger may have become a Sheep farmer after the war, as he took a number of courses on the subject while in the UK waiting to come home after the War ended. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Kerry Bulow (Mr) Victoria Australia

    3. Hi Bert, I do have a couple of William GRAINGER but both were born in Victoria, Australia. I have not had a lot of success in researching my GRAINGER Line. My 2 x Great Grandfather, John GRAINGER was born 30 Jul 1826 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland. His 2 sisters were born in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland and John married in St Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh 22 Jan 1850. To date I have not have not been able to find were / his father John was born / christened. I also think it is possible that my 2 x Great Grandfather may have had more siblings. John is shown as Cabinet Maker, Ship Porter, Street Porter & Shoemaker. I have no proof, but I have often wondered if John GRAINGER (Srn) was in the Army and moved around with them. There are a number of GRAINGER in Scotland and there is strong circumstantial evidence that some of them may have spent periods of time in Yorkshire. My 2 x Great Grandfather - John GRAINGER resided at No. 1 Cumberland Street Lane, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland when he married Isabella BOWIE his Spouse had a "Daughter Born there on the Eight day of January last" - Named Mary Davidina Brown (I believe she would have been given the "Brown" from the minister who christened her) Baptized on the Sabbath Twenty Second February current in St Bernard's Church by the Rev. David BROWN, late minister of the Scottish Church in Liverpool (this could indicate that John's father was in Yorkshire. There were GRAINGER in Col. James DURHAM's Fencibles which was established around 1795/96. They fought in the Irish Rebellion of 1798, therefore, it is possible that the Grainger's had children born in Ireland. The regiment was disbanded in 1799. Talk to you later. 3. Hallo Listers, I have a William Grainger (1815-87) in my line who was a journeyman tailor in Hereford. His father Thomas (d. 1849) was a butcher. Happy to share information if you think there might be a connection between the families. Kind regards, Bert Pemberton. >From: garyweatherhead6@msn.com >Reply-To: GRAINGER-L@rootsweb.com >To: GRAINGER-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [GRAINGER] Re: WILLAIM GRAINGER: Staffs .UK >Date: 24 Feb 2003 13:33:17 -0700 > >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > >Classification: Query > >Message Board URL: > >http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EEg.2ACIB/31.43 > >Message Board Post: > >I AM RELATED TO A WILLIAM GRAINGER WHO WORKED AS A BUTCHER IN THE LATE 19TH >CENTURY IN ENGLAND. 3. Hi All, Has anyone come across a marriage of a John GRAINGER and a Christina GALL anywhere between say 1800 and 1825. I have been told they are the parents of my John GRAINGER who was born 30 Jul 1826 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland. The birth is shown on the IGI without any parents. Talk to you later. 3. Hi Jimmy & List, You wrote: - "My Grand-father was in the salvation army, his name was Tolbert Grainger, his wife's name was Effie. They had 5 children, Lyod, Christine, Sherwood, Waldo, Joel. please contact me back. Thank you, jimmy Grainger" Now I do not want to sound difficult to get on with but you have missed a very vital bit of information on your posting. In which Country and State/County was your Tolbert Grainger, his wife, Effie and thier 5 children, Lyod, Christine, Sherwood, Waldo, Joel born, married and died in? It is also a very good idea if you add information like dates, places, etc. I look forward to your follow up posting as my GRAINGER Line married in to a Line of BOWIE who were in the Salvation Army in New South Wales, AUSTRALIA. I know of no connection to a Tolbert but that is not to say there is not one. Best regards, Ian Butterworth. ineke@bigfoot.com

Surnames: Butler, Hornedge, Heather, Clarke, Grainger, Hill, Jackson, Lancaster Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EEg.2ACIB/119.2.2 Message Board Post: Ian, found this old post, so I thought I would take a chance and see if you can help. My 2xggrandmother Eliza BUTLER b1819 {nee HORNEDGE/GRAINGER} was born in Sheffield we think. My 2xggrandfather James BUTLER was her second husband. She was previously married to one William GRAINGER and had two children Thomas b1838 and William jr b1840. The 1851 Cambridge census shows them living in Stow-cum-Quy and that they were both born in London. They are shown with James BUTLER at this time, so William snr must have left the scene by then. Whether he died or just shot through, I don't know. I am trying to find more info on Eliza and finding it quite difficult. I thought if I could track down William snr, it might provide a clue to her. I don't have any information on him other than what is here. If you have seen this William in your travels, I would love to hear about him. here's hoping. rgds Phil Butler..... ps. James and Eliza ended up emigrating to Tasmania in 1852.

    3. Hi Lezley & List, The Stephen GRAINGER & Sarah LIVINGSTONE shows up on the NSW Death Index as the father of 2 people: - 1. Eliza Anne SPANSWICK d. 1944 at Chatswood, NSW, Australia. Ref. # 23680. 2. Frederick George RABONE (I cannot understand the different surname) d. 1941 at Mosman, NSW, Australia. Ref. # 17840. There is also a Stephen F. GRAINGER who died 1905 at Woollahra, NSW, Australia. He was the son of Stephen J. & Blanche C. Ref. # 7331. There is not Stephen (or Steve) GRAINGER shown on the 1881 Census of Durham. It is possible he left England before 1881 or that he was born after the 1881 Census.
