    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Waugh, Dunn, Grangel, Granger, Antell, Antle, Antil, Power, Powers, Giogan, Googan, Lahey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EEg.2ACIB/142 Message Board Post: This is an update to my original posting with clarifications and corrections and new data. As earlier, I am still seeking any and all information and contacts concerning Philip WAUGH and Mary Elizabeth DUNN. Philip WAUGH, baptized November 20, 1870, St.John's, Newfoundland, Canada; died March 1, 1916 Boston, Massachusetts, USA; [son of Philip WAUGH (sr.)(b1839-?). and Bridget GRANGEL(1840-1906) (sometimes given as Mary and GRANGER); grandson of Matthew WAUGH (1804-1884) and Margaret DOBSON?] married (date and place as yet unknown, but reported as 1901 on Maine, USA 1910 census) Mary Elizabeth DUNN, b.May 3,1880, baptized June 11, 1880 (as Mary Elizabeth Dunne), St.John's, Newfoundland, Canada; died July 28, 1948 Portland, Maine, USA. [daughter of Richard DUNN and Mary Elizabeth ANTELL (sometimes DUNNE and ANTLE, ANTIL)] Philip died early, leaving Mary with 9 children ranging in age from 13yrs. down to 9 months. She continued to reside and raised these children after Philip's death in the Rumford,Maine,USA area where the couple and 3 of the children are now all buried. Their children listed in descending chronological order they are: John Henry (Jack) 1902, born in Needham/bapt. Newton, Massachusetts Mary Bridget (Molly) 1904 [m.Jenkins,m.Lacroix], born in St.John's, Newfoundland William Joseph (Bill) 1905, born in St.John's, Newfoundland Edward J. (Eddie) 1907, born in Rumford, Maine, USA Frank 1908, born in Rumford, Maine, USA James Philip (Jim) 1910, born in Rumford, Maine, USA Ida May 1911, born in Rumford, Maine, USA Margaret May 1914 [m.Wyman], born in Rumford, Maine, USA Leona May 1915 [m.Grady] born in Rumford, Maine, USA All above are now deceased including John Henry (Sr) who was my father. I would like to establish connections with any cousins near or far from this family who would like to contribute facts and/or help develop a genealogy for ourselves but especially for our younger generations. I would definitely like to establish connections with any ancestors or cousins of Philip Waugh and Mary Elizabeth Dunn. Mary DUNN had at least one brother named Patrick DUNN born in St.John's,Newfoundland.. Philip WAUGH had 7 or 8 siblings born in St.John's, Newfoundland and named Matthew (1862), Daniel Joseph (1866), John Thomas (1868), (Philip 1870 comes here chronologically), Joseph (1874), Bridget Mary (called Maggie? 1878), Ellen Mary (called Mary? 1882), and Mariam (1882). (and also possibly an Annie date unknown) [NOTE: there is a bapism record from St.Patricks RC church in St.John's which erroneously lists Mariam's baptism under the name William] I am particularly looking to connect with descendants of Daniel WAUGH who married Annie POWER(S) and settled in Newton/Needham, Massachusetts area where at least 6 children are known to have been born to them there. Also looking for descendants of Joseph WAUGH and Mary GIOGAN? who also lived for some time in the Newton, Massachusetts area where there is the record of the death of a child of theirs (John Philip died Aug.19,1900, age 9 mos. 20 days). Joseph lists his address as Sumner St. Boston on Mar 1, 1916 when he was the informant to Philip's death record. Some of these individuals or their children are believed to have lived in Rhode Island at least during the 1940s. I would also like to regain contact with a Rose LAHEY from Newfoundland, who at one time (2002) reported to me that she was the grand-daughter of Mariam WAUGH. It is now clear that we are of connected Waughs but I have been unable to contact her. If anyone reading this knows her or her family, I would appreciate you pointing them to this posting. John Waugh Portland, Maine, USA

    1. Re: [GRAINGER] Canadian Graingers from Yorkshire
    2. Ian Butterworth
    3. Hi Darla & List, It seems that GRAINGER is a difficult name to research. One reason seems to be that they may have moved about a lot. The GRAINGER (or it variants) names seems to have been on both sides of the Border (England and Scotland) from very early on and I am doubtful that anyone can link all GRAINGER's together. There are a number of GRAINGER in Scotland and there is strong circumstantial evidence that some of them may have spent periods of time in Yorkshire. My 2 x Great Grandfather - John GRAINGER a Ship Porter resided at No. 1 Cumberland Street Lane, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland when he married Isabella BOWIE his Spouse had a "Daughter Born there on the Eight day of January last" - Named Mary Davidina Brown (I believe she would have been given the "Brown" from the minister who christened her - I. B.) Baptized on the Sabbath Twenty Second February current in St Bernard's Church by the Rev. David BROWN, late minister of the Scottish Church in Liverpool (this could indicate that John's father was in Yorkshire. There were GRAINGER in Col. James DURHAM's Fencibles which was established around 1795/96. They fought in the Irish Rebellion of 1798, therefore, it is possible that the GRAINGER's had children born in Ireland (there are certainly GRAINGER in Ireland). The regiment was disbanded in 1799. There are also GRAINGER in the London area that came from County Durham sometime in the nineteenth century (or maybe even earlier). It is possible that the father of my 2 x Great Grandfather John GRAINGER (who was born on 30 July 1826 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland) was in Yorkshire. Later generations were in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland & Monifieth, Forfar, Scotland before they immigrated to Australia. Not all of the family came to Australia and I have not been able to trace them either. In fact they are proving a bit elusive. Just a bit of trivial information for you: - My Grandmother always said: - 1. All GRAINGER's (if spelt with "i") are related. 2. The GRAINGER's are related to the English Royal Family. I have not been able to confirm either of these 2 statements but I also note that some of my GRAINGER Line are shown on different records as GRANGER so I don't hold to my grandmother's statement. There was a Vicar in the 1600's by the name of GRAINGER and when he died his wife married a son of the King of Scotland (he never became King) so maybe this is where my grandmother's story came from. The name "GRAINGER" seems to have originated from the French Huguenots who settled in Cork City in 17th century. However there were Grainger in England in the 1600's so this may, or may not be true. Darla, if you care to email me direct I maybe able to put you in touch with some other GRAINGER researchers who are descended from some of the Yorkshire GRAINGER. Talk to you later. 3. Hi There My name is Les Greer from NZ. I have a birth certificate in front of me now that may have a bearing on your earlier Grainger family. It is a birth cert for Catherine GRANGER born 21-Aug-1843 at Queens Croft Dudley in the County of Worcester. The Parents were Willim Gane Granger and Hannah (nee Minshull/Marshull/Mirshull ) The maiden name is not very clear. I purchased this certificate some years ago in my efforts to find my Catherine Granger/Grainger but was later believed to have been born in Newcastle on Tyne though her birth has not yet been confirmed.
