    3. Hi List, My 2 x Great Grandfather was John GRAINGER who (according to a submitted record on the IGI) was born 30 Jul 1826 at Cupar, Fife, Scotland and the IGI does not list his parents. John married Isabella BOWIE on 22 Jan 1850, St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. The 1881 census shows - John GRAINGER M 54 M Cupar, Fife, Scotland Is there AKS who could please have a look at the Cupar records to see if they can find a John GRAINGER baptised in 1826? Also is there anyone who connects to this Line on the List? Talk to you later. Best regards, Ian Butterworth Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. Hi Caroline, Sorry for the delay in sending you a message regarding the Grainger surname in Dudley Worcester. I have a birth certificate that may be of interest to you. It is of the birth of Cartherine Granger b 21-Aug-1843 in Queens Crofs. The parents were William Cane Granger and Hannah Granger nee Heirshull/Meirshull (the writing is not clear on her maiden name) The father was a sand surveyor and the birth was registered in Dudley (no 459). I thought she may have been my Catherine Grainger/Granger who I later found was born in Northumberland. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EEg.2ACIB/140.1.1.1 Message Board Post: This Grainger family I'm working on was from Yorkshire. At some point, the father died and left about 8 kids. The mother and two of the younger children all were converted to Mormons on a British mission in 1851. They left Liverpool in January 1852 with a group of new converts and sailed to New Orleans. The mother died en route, and the daughter married the leader, a James Higbee, who was one of the main Mormon leaders. The other, older children also left England. My particular group went to Cincinnati, Ohio. They were there by the late 1840's. I have a WIlliam Grainger who married a Sarah Pailor or Paylor. Their son Charles Grainger was born about 1847 in Cincinnati, and married about 1877 to a Jennie or Gennie Rhinehart, who was born in Ohio but her parents were both from Germany. I'm hoping to go to the FHL this afternoon to look at census records. Martha

I have found out recently that Percy Grainger was Annie's first cousin. As my father's cousin George, who I am now in contact with, knew him very well. I have no knowledge of any of the family other than Percy living in the U.S. although it is possible that we are related to Alfred Grainger, somehow! Annie (Grainger) Martin's parents Edward and Anne (Patterson) Grainger came to Australia,. from County Cavan in Ireland, she had four brothers Edward, William AB, Somerset R, and Stephen R (the youngest who I met) also two sisters, Charlotte and Adelaide. Alfred Grainger could have been another cousin and gone to the US.
