Hi Ronald, There is probably no connection(but we all live in hope) but I have a Catherine Grainger/Granger possibly born in Newcastle on Tyne in abt 1844 who came to NZ in 1869.Before she left her parents were living in a village named Washington just over the border from Newcastle-on Tyne. Good luck with your research. My gg grandfather was Joseph George Grainger born around the same time. (1826) Unfortunately, I have very little information on him. He had a son William Henry who was born in 1862 Ripon, Yorkshire. William married twice but I only know the name of one of his wives, my great grandmother, Alice Eliza New born 1866. I know that these Graingers were in Ripon, Yorkshire and Walthamstow, Essex but because my information is so scarce right now it is quite possible that they had many addresses. Alice and 3 of her children came to Canada about 1919. Verbal family history says that William was the only child born to Joseph but that information is not proven in any way so I do not rely on it. I only write on the off chance that you have a bit of information that might make a connection. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks Linda

I am trying to go back a generation from Joseph (1826) but I am stuck because there are so many Joseph Graingers in the area. Nay help greatly appreciated Jean

Janet "Jessie" Grainger was born, possibly, 1814, in Peebleshire to Thomas Grainger and Mary/Marion Paisley. Jessie married John Scougal about 1837 and the banns were announced in both Innerleithen, Peebles, Scotland and Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland. I don't think Jessie's father is the famous Thomas Grainger, railroad engineer, but he was born about the same time, 1792. I'd like to hear from Grainger and Paisley family researchers. I'm looking for a Benjamin Granger/Grainger, son of Benjamin Grainger/Granger b. 1826, most likely in the Dudley, West Bromwich, Handsworth, Staffordshire/Worcestershire area. Benjamin had one sister that I know of and probably more. Her name was Caroline, b. 1821 in Kates Hill, Dudley, Worcestershire. Her father's name was James. Benjamin had a son, also Benjamin born around the same time period as your John. I have a letter from Benjamin to his "Aunt, Daughter, Granddaughter, and Great Granddaughter." written on 6 Jan 1896 from Box 50, West Ausitntown, OH. (It was In Care Of D.T.James) The letter was in the posession of the descendants of Caroline Grainger, who married Joseph Hamblet in 1837. I am not sure who he is exactly writing to, but think it could be my gg grandmother, Sarah Maria Hamblet Davies Boyns Bates. Sheand her daughter, Mary Ada visited the US some time before 1906 and visited another cousin, The Reverand Marshall Owen in NewYork I believe. Does any of this sound familiar to you? If so please contact me off line at cam59@cableone.net. I hope to hear from you! Sincerely, Caroline Allen-Martin
