    1. [GORIN] WELCOME TO A NEW GORIN ON THE LIST - & A SMIDGEN OF NEWS
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. I am tickled pink to announce that we have a new Gorin on our list as of a few minutes ago. Day before yesterday, I had an email from a John Gorin ... I don't see that name in an email very often. Lo and behold, the last time I saw John, he was about 10 years old and he and his family were here in my home. Betty B - you'll be thrilled to know that one John Oliver Gorin has been bitten by the genealogy bug and is now a subscriber to our list! He is now a married young man with a beautiful wife and tracked me down via the internet. John is the son of James Oliver Gorin, who is the son of my late dear friend Raymond Henry Gorin (who worked with me so many years on the family tree), who was the son of Joseph Bailey Gorin, who was the son of James Henry Gorin, who was the son of Major James J Gorin, who was the son of John Henry Gorin Sr, who was the son of Gladin and Nancy Hinch Gorin. Whew! We're going through a quick course in Genealogy 101 which I teach so often over the state and I think he will be submitting questions to the list and enjoying it! Welcome John! I had to slow down my researching a tad in order to earn a living, but have found a few tidbits. I did find the death certificate on this illusive Ray Harry Gorin - it shows him the son of Samuel "D" Gorin and Maggie Gorin - of whom we still know nothing. I know that's the son Samuel Gideon Gorin listed as his son - VanAlystene TX and all. The family tho didn't provide the information, the VA did, and I think Maggie might have been a figment of bureaucratic misinformation! I also found the death record (but not certificate) on Frederick Proctor Gorin of the Henry Gorin line, who died 27 Sept 1933 in Seattle, King, WA. He is the one who invented the space bar on the typewriter; I have his patent. Without that, we'd have a dickens of a time typing! I found a smidgen on Dr Ephraim J Rice and wife Mary Gorin who lived in Decatur, then Moweaqua IL - again out of the Henry Gorin line. and a little on Franklin Forsythe English and wife Mary Gorin, again of the Henry Gorin line. I'm going through the death records on line, trying to find some of these Gorin's and spouses that I don't have much information on. A gal wrote me day before yesterday and simply said "We have an Elvira Gorin. She married a George Evans and lived in Kansas." I knew them of course and wrote back; her husband is a descendant of Henry Madison Gorin, one of my favorites - brother to Dr. William Bartley Gorin of Louisiana, MO. I have a picture of Henry Madison when he was much older. She attached a photo of "Grandpa Gorin" but wasn't sure which one it was. It was Henry as a younger man - good looking. Gorin, MO is named for him; he is out of the Henry Gorin line too. She said that she had some more older pictures; one was a picture she took of an old oil portrait of a Gorin man. Please, let it be a painting of Dr William Bartley Gorin - there's a lot of us who would flip out over that. I have a picture of John Darns Gorin, father of Henry M - so it might be him, but hope springs eternal! Out of here for a few days; I'm taking a tour tomorrow (likely in the rain) with a group from our church to Bardstown KY - a very old, historic and beautiful town. Later - and if you have any finds ... please write!! Sandi Col. Sandi Gorin - GORIN worldconnect website: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~sgorin
