I've been sort of quiet for the past 2 weeks - I was talked into having one of 2 cataract surgeries down and, unlike many, I didn't jump up and shout "I can see". I still only have 25% healing in the eye, a lot of blurring and it can drive one crazy. But .. I mentioned several weeks ago that I had sent for 5 death certificates for MO. They arrived today, 4 weeks early and it did fill in a lot of blanks. The info is shown below. Our biggest mystery lady now has a father and a date of birth ... but created more problems. Magdalena Rice Lynott. She was the widow of John P Lynot(t) of Louisiana, Pike, MO - and I call her the gypsy lady. On some census reports she shows as being born in Bohemia and her parents same; sometimes born MO. Her date of birth is now known - 25 July 1847. Her son George Lynot(t) gave the information and said that her father was Carl Rice, mother's name unknown. Why wouldn't he know his grandmother's name? And, there is no Carl Rice in MO in 1850 with a 3 yr old dau. Many Bohemians (covers a lot of territory) settled in St Louis and in Louisiana. My dau Shelley found a death record for a Carl August Reisz who died 1881 in St Louis and is buried at Holy Ghost Cemetery. He is not listed there unless the name was unreadable by the transcriber. Lena Rice Lynot(t) died 13 Mar 1922 and is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana, MO - she was the mother of Edith Lynott who married Ernest Bartley Gorin Sr. She died of senility and bronchitis. Joanna Gorin was the widow of Rev Marcellus Gladden Gorin, Presbyterian minister of St Louis; sister to Governor J Proctor Knott (born KY, MO governor). She was born 20 Sept 1840 in Big Springs KY; died 4 Aug 1921 in St Louis of myocaditis and arteriosclerosis. She was the daughter of Joseph Knott (born Baltimore MD) and Maria McMcElroy (born Big Springs). Maude Gorin was the daughter of the above, born 13 Oct 1862, died 29 Nov 1933 in St Louis. She was a spinster lady, born Memphis MO; died of scalp cancer. Edith (Lynott) Gorin, d/o Lena and John P Lynott was born 12 Jan 1868 in Lincoln Co Mo; widow of Ernest BARKLEY (oops) Gorin. We know it's Bartley! Died 11 Sept 1937 in Louisiana MO of coronary thrombosis. Frank Buffum Gorin (bro of Ernest Sr) was born 11 Mar of Apr 1893 (I have the correct date, forgot to look it up!) in Louisiana Mo. His wife shown as Ruby S, he was a salesman. He died 6 Mar 1939 at the VA Hospital, records prepared by the Chief Medical Officer, Veteran's Administration, Jefferson Barracks. Frank lived in Bunker Hill IL. Died of tuberculosis.
