Hi everyone. :) I've been in contact with a distant cousin in Louisiana and she just sent me the following information. I'm including my letter to her and her response and my letter back to her. Can anyone help me with this? This, combined with other information from others, definitely proves that my Sanford is not the son of Sanford and Hannah Gorham, since he died in 1816 and this census puts my Sanford as being born abt 1819. But I'm still convinced he's part of this family in some way. By the way, I'm still trying to find someone who knows where in Napa, Hannah Cavendish Gorham is buried. Thanks. My letter to her: >Do you know if it was common to have two middle names in that period? Like >Nancy A. L. Gorham? And one last ?, at least for today, :) where did you get the >original list of Sanford and Mahulda and all of their kids? It's driving me crazy not >being able to trace them back. I'm running out of places to look and I'm writing and >calling everyone I can think of. As for a tombstone for Sanford, we could get one >now, but since we don't know his exact birth and death date, I think we should wait. >If you want to go ahead and turn in JTF's application, it will be approved, no >problem. :) Talk to you soon. Her letter to me: >Hi, you are not bothering me. I enjoy getting your e-mails. I do not >know what the M. stands for in George's name. I got the original list >of all the children from the 1850 Tennessee Census, Vol. 3 & 4, written >by Gaskell-Murley. This book is in the Lincoln Parish Library and also >in the Historical Library in Alexandria. I'm sure you can find a copy >just about anywhere. They are listed on page 37. There are 3 Gorham >families listed with 2 of the heads born in Ky and 1 in Tn. I believe >John W. to be a brother to Sanford , and William to be an uncle. I've >been in touch with a man in Ky that says Sanford is a Jr., named for his >father, Sanford. I'll look up what I have on that and let you know. In >the meantime, this is what is listed on the 1850 Tn census. Write soon. >Gorham, John W. 30 T Rb 27-137 Lidey 25 Ky Mary E. 9 Robert 6 Monterey 3 here there is a list of several other people in the same household, if you want these, I'll e-mail later >Gorham, Sandford 31 Ky Rb 315-42 Huldah 31 T John 12 Nancy 10 Martha 9 Harriet 7 H. Our Sanford cannot be the son of Sanford and >Hannah Cavendish Gorham like I originally thought because the older Sanford died >in 1816 and the census puts our Sanford as being born abt 1819. I can't find the >parents of William B. Gorham yet, but I'm going to put the word out. John is >William's son from his first marriage. All of the following info came from the LDS >Familysearch.com, so I don't consider that verification. I've got a couple of hours >with no kids so I'll see what else I can find. I have so much info on that family. The >Sanford who is the son of Sanford and Hannah, married a Mary Ashurst and moved >to Missouri. And he has a brother named John, but it's not this John. Any idea on who his parents are? He could possibly be Sanford's uncle. Thanks for the tip. I already had this info in my files because of your suggestion. ARE WE HAVING FUN YET??????? :) Thanks to all of you for putting up with me. Paula Gorham Fealko (A quick observation, the census puts Mahulda as being born about 1819, but her headstone reads 1815. Was there some kind of time delay in relaying the information back then? Or are they pretty accurate?)
