This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Gorham, Howland, King, Stray, Friegel, Harris, Johnston, Eskridge Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BiZ.2ACIB/240.2 Message Board Post: My branch of the Gorham family descends from Joseph, ninth child of Frederick, third child of Captain George, tenth child of Captain George, first child of Shubael, youngest child of Captain John Gorham of Plymouth, son of Ralph Gorham and husband to Desire Howland. Joseph and Emily Edith King of NY then Ohio had three children of which the middle child, Chester Raymond Gorham, was one of the founders and original Gorham Brothers of the Gorham Bros. Co, Plywoods and Veneers, of Mt. Pleasant MI. His only son was Arwin Everett Gorham of Mt. Pleasant, MI where he was both president of the Gorham Bros. and president of the Exchange Savings Bank of the same city. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner and member of the Elks. A resident of Euclid, OH, Berlin, NY and Mt. Pleasant, MI. He and his wife, Sara Margaret Johnston had Chester Arwin Gorham and Robert Balmer Gorham. Chester Arwin Gorham married Oa Louise Friegel, was a graduate of the University of MI, 32nd degree Mason; Lt. WWI, member of the VFW and associated with his father at Gorham Bros. They had three sons, one of whom was my father, Creighton Johnston Gorham. Chester and Oa divorced and he remarried Grace Pritchard of Alva, OK. Oa remarried to a man named Harris who owned the Harris Milling Co. in Michigan. My father's eldest brother was killed as Captain in the Marine Corps, a pilot in WWII attached to the Royal Canadian Air Corps in 1943. My father's fraternal twin brother, Arwin, was a psychiatrist in St. Louis, MO for many years until he died in NY. My father was married to Norma Dean Eskridge and died in 1951 in Tulsa, OK. From my father were only my two sisters and myself. His twin brother had three sons, Michael, Eric and I don't remember the other son's name and we never kept up with them. As far as I know, there are no Gorhams of that line still living in MI since my father settled in OK and his brother in MO. Their father ended up, I believe, in OK. Chester Arwin's brother, Robert Balmer Gorham, died 1902 and was unmarried and childless at his death. I don't know what happened to Helen Henrietta Gorham who married Orrin Stray in Ohio, Joseph Gorham's eldest and know even less about Ezra Sherman Gorham, Joseph Gorham's youngest, who probably would have been in either Euclid, OH or Berlin, NY on reaching adulthood.
