Although I must say that the research on this has been small. I have found very little on this particular unit. The Los Angeles Mounted Rifles, C.S.A. is the only alternative. Its organization was just before the war and Southern sympathizers in Calif. wanted some action. Albert Sidney Johnston, future Confederate General killed at Shiloh, served as a private in this pre-war band. Before it had the chance to be designated a California regiment, its companys were broken up and consolidated in the Texas Cavalry. Members of the Los Angeles Mounted Rifles probably served the War as Texas Cavalry under the command of Gen. Henry H. Sibley in the Arizona campaign and later, Red River campaign in Louisiana. Erik
