John of Glapthorne descends until about 1913 with English Gorhams. Ginny Wagner

I am looking for any information on my great grandfather William Walker Gorham born 1863 and married Minnie Frances Porter in 1883. in Kingston New Brunswick. They lived in Kings County, New Brunswick and had one child a daughter Bertha Welling Gorham. Shortly after her birth Walker left for parts unknown. It was rumoured that he went to California. Walker was the son of Nathaniel Elijah Gorham and Charlotte Amanda Whelpley. Mary's death certificate shows her to be his widow but that was in 1929. Both the 1871 and 1881 show him listed as part of the household but on those census they do not show the relationship to Nathaniel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Other people (relatives) besides myself having been searching for this wily rascal for many years. TIA Marie F. Walpole

My husband's ggrandmother was a Gorham whose parents were from Vermont, but I don't have any information on their names or any siblings. Her name was Sarah Camil(l)a Gorham who was born in Canada (one census states that it was French Canada, Quebec?) on 10 May 1837. I have surmised (perhaps erroneously) that she was born while the family was in transit to the mid-west via the St Lawrence seaway. She married James Tracey Michael Davis in Whitley Co., IN, 1 Jan 1855. She died in Butler Co., Kansas, on 18 Jan 1901. Do you have any information on any Gorham with restless feet that wandered off to the center of the USA in about 1836-37? Thanks for any help and your time.

A William Gorham (not the same one, because he was not married to a Porter) was my ggggfather; his son, George Raymond Gorham came to California c. 1850. If they came over about the same time, one may have influenced the other to do so. George Raymond Gorham lived in Humboldt County... Charleen: Like you I am also a descendant of Captain John Gorham and his wife Desire Howland. and their son Shubael Gorham and his wife Puella Hussey.. Their son George Gorham married Hannah Banks and had a son Shubael who married Mary Selleck. This family then moved to New Brunswick Canada in the Long Reach, Kings County area. I am working on getting the documents together for the Mayflower Society but I have one really high brick wall. My great grandfather was William Walker Gorham married to Mary Minnie Porter. Shortly after the birth of my grandmother, he left his wife and daughter and has never been heard from since. Hi Charleen, I'd also love a copy of your coat of arms. I have several of them and wonder if the one you have is the same as any I have and that I would be willing to share. Virginia Gayle Gorham (Ralph, Captain John, Shubael, Captain George, Captain George, Frederick, Joseph, Chester, Arwin, Chester, Creighton). I thought I read somewhere that the Philip was the ship Ralph and John came over on, docked in the south, and that there was another brother with John who stayed down south, may have even settled Kentucky or some such! A man with one short or mangled arm. I always fantasized that he was persecuted in the Star Chamber courts as a Puritan ... LOL. My branch (Joseph's son, Chester) was one of the original founders of the Gorham Brothers Co., Plywoods and Veneers, of Mt. Pleasant, MI. Yes, Captain John Gorham who died at the Great Swamp Fight in 1675/6 was my ggggg gggggfather. I have also read that all American Gorhams descend from him. George Gorham--interesting. My ggg grandfather had the same name (middle name Raymond, his mother's maiden name). No direct connection, apparently, with your George, though, because "my" Gorhams have been in America since the early 1600s (shortly after the Mayflower; in fact, George's ancestor John Gorham married the daughter of two Mayflower passengers (Desire Howland was born to John Howland and Elizabeth (Tilley) Gorham)).
