The family bible records her name as Elizabeth Rose Frances Gorham but everyone in my family remembers her as being known as Rose. She married my Great Grandfather, John Fitzmaurice St Ledger Peet in 1901. As far as I know, she had 5 younger brothers but I have not fully confirmed their details yet. I have a rough idea from the family bible. Nor do I know what happened to them all. 2 of the brothers were born in Galway (William Evanson Gorham 1877 & Ludlow Sealy Gorham 1878). The other 3 were either Cork or Kerry. Rose's parents were George Edward Gorham and Charlotte Martha Evanson married 1869 in Cork. I have an old family tree document that lists Gorham ancestors beyond George Edward Gorham (back to a Nathaniel Gorham) but there are not many details in regards to dates or places. My main focus is to track down what happened to Rose Gorhams' brothers to find out if there are any living ancestors from them. I know at least one died unmarried and suspect another died in WWI. I have not as yet been able to track down any marriages or children for the others. Regards Karen Peet

Elizabeth married John Leighton probably in 1770 or thereabouts. They had four children that I know of two who died in infancy (both named John) and then Nathaniel born in 1774 and died between 1825-30 and Elizabeth Gorham Leighton born 1776. Elizabeth Gorham Leighton then went on to marry Benjamin Lee in Boston in 1797. They had nine children one of whom Alfred Lee, Bishop of Wilmington, is my great-great-grandfather. Can anyone help me confirm that my ancestress Elizabeth Gorham is the same as the daughter named Elizabeth that Nathaniel Gorham and Mary Soley had? Thanks in advance.

I have just spent the evening going through all the messages posted since 1999 and have questions for quite a few of you. I have also hit a brick wall. All my life I have been told that Nathaniel Gorham who signed the Constitution was my 5th GG, but I am beginning to doubt it. Supposedly we come down through his son Stephen, however, Stephen apparently lived to a ripe old age without ever marrying. The information that I can verify goes back to Josiah, who married Roxana (Johnson), they had a son Henry, born in Ohio, and then the family moved to Illinois, Champaign, South Homer area. There they stayed for three more generations. Roxana died and Josiah remarried a Cleora Brown. Once I came across a reference that made me believe that Josiah's father was Gardiner, but I thought that was so far off the trail, that I didn't keep the information. Can anybody shed any light on this? I would appreciate any leads. Molly Gorham Jager --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo! Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. I am working on transcribing the the will of Stratton Gorham and posting it on this list. Ira was born in 1840 in Clinton County, Ohio, and died Jan 8 1903 in Niles, Berrien Co. MI. He married Clara Hubbard 1 Jan 1865 in Berrien County Michigan. I believe Stratton Gorham was the son of Joseph Barlow Gorham and Abigail Stratton. Stratton was Joseph's executor, and an Abigail Gorham was buried near Stratton in Clinton county but that is so far all the proof I have of Stratton's parentage. If you accept that Joseph Barlow Gorham was Stratton's father, you can trace back to the Mayflower-- most of this line has been written up in this book: JOHN HOWLAND OF THE MAYFLOWER, Vol 1, The First Five Generations; Documented descendants through his first child Desire2 Howland and her husband Captain John Gorham. By Elizabeth Pearson White. Another researcher who has helped me with this line is Joanne Gorham, and I believe she has posted her GEDCOM on either this site or Rootsweb.

The new Rootsweb mailing list system (Mailman) conversion has started and will continue for the next couple of weeks, staggered alphabetically. You may check this link for the timetable: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html While the "migration" of the lists should process uneventfully for listmembers, there are a few points that need to be covered: 1. AOL users (and possibly some other ISPs), please check your spam folders, and, if you find list mail held as spam, you will need to be sure to click the *THIS IS NOT SPAM* link to send the list mail to your current mailbox. 2. If you are subscribed to both L & D mail modes of this list, the new system is not set up to send both to the same email address. If you want to be subscribed in both modes it will be necessary to use another email address for your digest mail. If you are subscribed to the list in both mail modes with the same address, you will be dropped from the digest list, so if this happens to you, please resubscribe with a different email address. This will not effect those who subscribe in either of the mail modes exclusively. 3. The list's email address will change from GORHAM-L@rootsweb.com to GORHAM@rootsweb.com. However, both addresses will apprently work. SUBSCRIBE and UNSUBSCRIBE messages *must* contain the word "subscribe" or "unsubcribe" in the SUBJECT of the message (vice message body, as in the past). 4. In the event you receive an unsubscribe notice and believe it to be in error, please contact me privately at GORHAM-admin@rootsweb.com and I'll correct the problem. 5. Digest subscribers may notice some changes to the list digests. In addition, the digest volume and issue number may be different (out of sequence) from what you had been receiving. If your digests arrive in a different format than you are used to and you would like it changed, contact me privately at the list admin address: GORHAM-admin@rootsweb.com. 6. If you use email headers to filter list mail to special folders (as I do), you will probably need to tweak your filters once the new system begins. 7. If you run into any unusual or confusing occurrences with mail from this list that could possibly be related to the changeover, let me know. Regards, Dale Givens List Administrator
