    2. When I began researching my Gordon surnmame, the family stated that they were "Scottish". Fortunately, I worked backward from what I knew. Discovered my Gordon's were in Ireland for the Plantation in the 1600's. Yes, they had come from Scotland, but had lived centuries in Northern Ireland. When I told my father, he said, "Oh, that's right. Dad always said we were Scotch-Irish." I'm on a Scotch-Irish list, as well. It is very common for people to want to skip the "Irish" part and get to Scottish research. This may have been true for your ancestor who left the record. There were countless Gordon's in Northern Ireland. Just a thought............Sandra
