    3. I wish we could get all our info in one fell swoop, but since we seem to have to put it together in dribs and drabs, let me throw this in there. In the books, Scotch Irish in America, it gives info that Maury Co. TN was founded by settlers from Williamsburg Co. SC. There certainly were Gordons in Williamsburg SC as it was founded by a group of settlers led by Roger Gordon who supposedly came from PA. and Scotland. In Early Pee Dee Settlers, there are 2 William Gordon, 1 was m. to Margaret Scott nee Gregg, in Pee Dee 1772 d. 1783 was Captain in Marion's Brigade. Another Wm. in Peedee 1726. a James who was a Lt. Col in Loyalist Militia, another who was Lieutenant in Marion's Brigade, a John who was private in Marion's Brigade. All these are prob. descending from Roger Gordon. Hope this does not confuse anyone. I am just putting the info out there. It needs a LOT of investigation. We know that the family of Chapman Gordon who was fa. of Gen. John B. Gordon later went to Maury Co. TN. too. I have had a theory that all the Gordons of Wilkes co NC, Williamsburg SC, PA and VA are related. We may not ever prove that theory, but it sure is interesting when they keep moving in such close proximity to each other.
