I don't have my notes handy right now so the dates in the following may not be exactly accurate. In about 1840 in Gwinnett Co., GA, a man named George A. Gordon (not sure what the A. stood for; information that I have found varies) died leaving a minor son whose name was also George A. The elder George A. was a son of Thomas Gordon and Mary Buffington. At the time of his father's death, the younger George A. had a guardian appointed. There is a record of his reaching his majority, but without my notes I cannot remember the exact date. [BTW my notes are in storage while I redo my computer/research room.] The younger George A. is of the right age to have been my Gordon ancestor, George Alexander Gorson. The earliest proven record of my George Alexander is the 1850 census of Scott Co., MS. George was born 4 November 1822 in Georgia. He married Margaret Adeline Gray, daughter of Alexander Gray and Susannah Vanderbilt, 26 October 1843. We do not know where they were married. Margaret was born in Tennessee, but from census records we believe that her family was in Alabama and Mississippi prior to 1843. George and Margaret had 7 children. The names of these children are similar to names used in the family of Thomas Gordon and Mary Buffington. By 1857 Margaret and 5 of the children were dead and George and the two surviving children were in Cherokee Co., TX where George remarried. He and his new wife later moved to Bosque Co., TX where he died in 1884. George's son, Charles Alexander Gordon was my great grandfather. I have been in contact with one or two descendants of Thomas Gordon and Mary Buffington, but they have little information on Thomas' son George A. I keep hoping that someone else is researching the family of the elder George A. Gordon and can help me solve this mystery. Margaret McCleskey, Arlington, TX
