There doesn't appear to be a Richard among them, but another coincidence is the name Herndon. The following paragraph was extracted from Richard's RW pension application in which he describes his service in Wilkes Co., NC. "That he volunteered in the service of the U. States the 16th of August 1781 in Wilkes County North Carolina in an expedition against the Indians for three months under Capt John Beverly & Col. Hearn [Herndon] and marched to Pleasant Garden near the head of Kataboo [Catawba] River when we joined Genl McDowels army, was principally engaged in the Cherokee nation, what was called the middle settlements, scouring the country destroying Indian houses, towns, crops, etc. ....." Richard was a 15 year old boy when he signed on for this expedition. Although he never mentions by name or reference any kinsman, its likely such a young man would have followed an older brother or youngish uncle into the militia. There were other Gordons in the area, a fact that interests me greatly. But Richard remains elusive. Thanks anyway. Joyce

Oct. 01, 1759. I also have it that charles younger brother George married Sarah Herndon step-daughter of Charles. So its possible one of these could be a conection.I hope i have been of some help.
