Thanks to all of you for the great information on Elizabeth GORDON and her family. I have quite a bit on her husband and the SIMS family. You have given me great leads and agreed with some of my previous assertions. I am still digesting all that Sheila Wood shared. The Cemetery at Prospect UMC (used to be Prospect Baptist Church) is a fascinating find. It is full of these Gordons and related families. I now need to make another trip there. (I grew up in Tupelo and still have property and family there. My Sims cousin and I make cemetery trips when I am there.) As Pat Spencer noted, Elizabeth's gravestone contains the name and dates for her son Lycurgus. Actually it is a four sided column which has Elizabeth's name and dates on one side, husband Barnet on one side, son Lycurgus on one side, and son P.H. on the fourth. We doubt that anyone other than Elizabeth is actually interred there. Does anyone know if this was a common practice? Both the sons died in the civil war. We suspect that the bodies were never sent home. Barnet is reported by some to have died while they were still in Pickens County, AL. Does anyone have any evidence of this? AND -- How do I get a copy of this book that several of you seem to have "Gordons of the Deep South"? I may be able to find one at the Georgia Archives, but it sounds like a book I would like to own. Thanks again. Ann Downing
