Our Archibald appears in Granville County NC sometime around the 1770s I think. Here is a bit of what we know: Approximate dob 1758 Abstracts of Granville County NC> 9236 November court, 1810 J. C. Russel to Thomas Cooke, deed for 304 acres which was part of Archibald Gordon Tract. Granville County Kinfolks, p 267 Entry in deed Book2,p377 Dennis T Paschall Bill of Sale to Howel Gordan, son of Archibald Gordon, Sr. Dec 4 1824 1830 census indicates both Archibald Gordon , Sr. and Archibald Gordon Jr. resided in Granville County. In Archibald Sr. household there resided four people- 1 male 5-10; 1 male between 10-15; 1 female between 50-60. Nov. 5, 1849 State of NC. Granville County, Willis Gordon is named executor of Archibald Gordon"s estate. Two other listed not identified. Clerk of the Court Book? page 134 Clerk of Superior Court. Settlement of Archibald Gordon"s accounts dated Dec6 1851. Administrator Willis Gordon. Following appeared on 07 February 1878 in THE CARTHAGIAN, a Moore Co., NC, newspaper. Letter from Mamie Lee Gordon Rehu, daughter of James Henry Gordon, granddaughter of Calvin Gordon.) dated 24 Sept 1930 to Rev. Gordon. Mrs. Rehu states she has a copy of an item taken from the Oxford, NC TORCHLIGHT (now in print) that states "Archie Gordon, Revolutionary soldier who has numerous descendants in the county was the father of 27 boys (one wife, Caroline Gordon - 7 of whom were born within 24 months - at the Whig convention which assembled in Raleigh in 1840 old Archie was escorted thru the streets in a four horse carriage with a flag floating over it bearing the inscription 'Archie Gordon the Whig father of 27 Whig sons'".
