    3. I was wondering if anyone on the list could help me to identify this group of Gordons. I recently was sent information that indicates that my 3rd great grandfather, William Gordon, who was born VA, August 25, 1780 and d. Morgan Co., IN, August 19, 1861, lived in Buckingham Co., VA at least from 1814 to 1836. Buckingham was part of Henrico Co. until 1727. It was part of Goochland Co. until 1744. Then it was part of Albemarle Co. until 1758 when it officially became Buckingham County. In trying to identify my William's family, I found that in the 1780's - 90's there was a Notley Gordon living in this area. In 1804, a Richard Gordon bought land near the New Store (quarter plantation) from Anders B. In the 1810 Buckingham Co., VA census, Archibald, Joseph, and Samuel Gordon were all living in this area. In 1814, my William bought 63 acres, 10 miles south of the courthouse. In 1825 and again in 1833, he increased his land to 126 acres. These later additions were from the estate of a Stephen McCormack. Also in 1814 and 1815 an Archibald T. Gordon and a Robert D. Gordon purchased land on the Willis River, 11 miles south of the courthouse. On the Buckingham Co., VA Tax List of April 18, 1821, William Gordon and Obadiah Gordon are both listed in District 2. There must have been a family connection between these men as they all bought land very close to each other. Does anyone recognize any of them? I believe that William had two marriages. The first wife is unknown. I believe that there is a daughter named Nancy Anise Gordon, b. September 21, 1806 who married George Turner Pyle. There may have been sons named Joseph and John. William's second wife was Rhoda B. ?, b. March 9, 1800, VA, d. March 31, 1880, Morgan Co., IN. Their children were: William Mitchel Gordon, Samuel H. Gordon, Mary Catherine Gordon, Sarah P. Gordon, Susan F. Gordon, and Elizabeth Emily Gordon.
