I'm particularly interested in your Alabama Gordons though because the Richard Gordon I'm tracking lived nearby your Samuel and Rachel in KY and settled in Jackson Co. TN in about 1811. He remained there until his probably death after the 1840 census. I believe Richard was the father of James C. Gordon, my g-grandfather, who was born in KY in abt 1808 and first appears on record in the Jackson Co., TN, 1840 census. From later census records, I've learned that his first child, James W. Gordon, was born in Alabama in 1831. I have speculated that James C. Gordon might have been visiting his father's relatives in Alabama where he met and married Martha J. and where this child was born, but your mention of Alabama is my first solid lead. >From various deed records in Davidson and Sumner Co., TN, I had learned that Richard Gordon's wife was Susannah Fork. Unfortunately, Jackson Co., TN, has experienced two court house fires that make research there very difficult. >From a history posted to the Lee Co., VA, GenWeb page, yesterday I learned that Susannah was widowed when her husband Joshua Butcher, Jr., was killed by the Indians in February, 1781, and later married William Fork who died between 1784 and 1786, all this before she was much older than 20. I'll be visiting your web site later today and let you know if anything looks promising. Joyce
