I just subscribed today so am new at the protocol here. My Gordon line are Scotch-Irish. Are any of you members related to the John Gordon line from Rathfryland and Banbridge in County Down, Ireland? This John was born sometime before 1732 and md Mary__?__. Their 3 children were: John, Mary and Janet; the family was of Tullyconnaught in Seapatrick parish. John (the elder's) probate is dated 1778 and the executors were Geo. Mullholland and Walter Crawford; witnesses were John Knox, Thomas Cumming and John Egar. Mary, the daughter, md a man whose surname was Kelton, n.f.i. Janet the daughter md Samuel Gordon of Glaskerbeg, near Banbridge. The younger John was born abt 1755 and died in 1836 in County Down, in Ireland. He md 1792 at Banbridge, Co. Down, Eliz. Boggs, dau. of Hans Boggs of Loughbrickland. Executors for John, the younger's will, were Rev. Alex Orr, Thomas Woods and Andrew Mulligan. John, the younger and wife Eliz (Boggs) had 7 children, some of whom came to the US in the 19th century: James Arhcibald of Tullyconnaugth and Banbridge--unmd. Hans who became a surgeon--he was of Tullyconnaught, Banbridge and Dublin Jane (my line) born abt 1803 who md Hance Cumming in in1831 at Banbridge and came to the US--to NY City and soon after to Ontario, Canada to what is present-day Brant Co.--they went to Waukesha Co, WI in 1845; she died in 1846 Mary who md David Graham and had no ch. Eliz. - unmd Sarah who md John Hodge of New York -the had no ch. John b. abt 1803 and d. 1861; md Eliz. Nelson. They had a huge family: John, David, Annie, Eliz., Bessie, Sarah (who md Jos. McGladdery) , Emily )who md Hugh Graham), John, Robert, Mary (who md Isaac Barr) and others. I have other Gordon lines from County Down, who appear to be related. I'd like to hear from anyone with ties to County Down, Ireland and/or who recognize a link to this line. Carol Ashby
