    1. Re: Govin Gordon

    3. There has been a lot of recent discussion about Gordons who moved from colonial Virginia to South Carolina. To the best of my knowledge, there are 2 distinct lines here with no proven connection. 1. A recent posting included lots of info about Gordons from Spotsylvania County who moved to Spartanburg, Co, SC. The material posted included info tracing them back several generations to the 17th century in Accomack Co, VA. 2. The Gordon line laid out in Erminie Nothcutt Marshall's book: "Gordons of the Deep South". This line can be traced back to John Gordon (or Gording) who first appears in 1733 in Prince William County, VA (this is currently in Loudoun Co, near Leesburg). As far as I can tell. There is nothing in the recent postings tying these 2 lines together. Am I missing something? Following is info I posted once before about 6 months ago. It deals with the 2nd Gordon line mentioned above. One of the lines which deadends in the "Gordons of the Deep South" is Rutha Gordon who married William Gary and moved to the frontier in Bosque County, TX by 1852. This includes a little info on Govin Gordon, Sr. and Govin Gordon, Jr. -Joel Lane _________________________________________________ John Gordon Earliest known record (as John Gording) is a land purchase for 367 acres on Clerks Run, Truro Parish, Prince William County, VA on 27 January, 1733 (this is now in Loudoun Co.).
