Chuck, I checked Gordons of the Deep South for your folks but don't have any connection. The area of NC which the Gordons first moved into was under a Royal Land Grant from George III. The land was disputed land and was finally ruled to actually be part of SC. Most of the families that moved decided to do so because of good land. They were, for the most part, planters.
