I will look up Josiah, Adonijah and Clarence in the book Gordons in America but I won't be able to do it for several days because it's on fiche, and I won't be able to get to a fiche reader until next week. Dean and Faye; Your Gordon sounds as if he could be a brother or cousin of Michael I doubt he came to America alone and most of their children have the same first names. I have a distant cousin in Hershey PA who gave me most of my Gordon data. I forwarded your letter to him. Earl H. I have tried, but I haven't made it back to the Federal building in our area, since I started with this line again. I do have the census membership with Ancestry.com, but they don't have an index yet, and Los Angeles has too many districts. Hi Jim... Yes, I have the marriage record, but of course there is no birth record. If I could figure out what their faith was perhaps I could locate a baptismal record. Any ideas on how to locate church records? Hello everyone, I thought with all the interest in VA lately I might get lucky. I am trying to find info on my great grandfather Clarence Sylvester Gordon born 7-9-1875 in Virginia County unknown. He died in San Bernadino Ca 3-19-1947, but his residence was actually Los Angeles CA. I did order his death cert but his parents are listed as unknown. He married Henerrita Catherine Frentz or it could be Frantz, on birth cert and death cert of their son Elmer Clarence Gordon, it was spelled one way on one and another way on the other. Elmer was born in Los Angeles, CA on 12-3-1902 and died 3-13-1950. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Tina Smith
Don Unfortunately, the only information I have abt Gordons in King and Queen Co, VA, is that Jesse Gordon was born there in 1755. His Revolutionary War pension file states this. Since K & Q Co. records were burned twice, there are very few records for it from before the Civil War. I just got a book (on fiche)called Gordons in Virginia by Armistead Gordon that I'm hoping will shed some light. I'll let you know if there's more abt Roderick in this book. Since Jesse Gordon was born in 1755, I am estimating that his father was born abt 1725-1730 also, so it's possible he is Jane's nephew. Just starting to look for my maternal grandparents. They were Elizabeth and Martin Gordon. Martin's family came from Irland. Sallie's family was born in France and entered Canada and then came to Titus County Texas where their daughter Sallie was born at Monticello. TX about 1875. She married Benjamin Lloyd Graff aboaut 1900. Ekizabeth and Martin also had a daughter named Elizabeth. Daughter Elizabeth married a Herbert Benjamin Colbert. Does anyone know aboaut this family. \ Mary Lou
It has been some time since I posted any of my family's information. My g3grandfather came to America from Inverness, Scotland in the very late 1700's or early 1800's, he married a New Yorker, Sarah Wright at Salem, PA (there are many Salems in PA) they had the following children: 1) Alexander 2) John 3) Isaac 4) Samuel 5) Robert (My g2grandfather born October 28, 1816 New York State) 6) William 7) Martha 8) Margaret 9) Eleanor 10) Nancy 11) Rebecca Robert migrated to York County, Ontario, Canada and married Mary Hacking at Whitchurch, Ontario on March 22, 1836. Little is known of the other siblings. A daughter of one of Robert's brothers, Maggie Gordon was known to reside in Morris, Illinois in 1877. She had been married to a William W Phillips on Nov 20, 1876 at Rock Island, Illinois. If you know of or are related to any of the above. would appreciate hearing from you. ...............Best regards Blair Gordon

Dean and Faye Alley; your Gordon family sounds very much like mine. My ancestor was Michael Gordon b 6 Jan 1799 in Scotland and came to Welsh Run, Franklin co PA before 1825. He m Annie Hawbaker from Lancaster co PA and raised 15 children almost all of whom match the names of yours They were in the same state at the same time and gave their children the same names. I always doubted Michael came from Scotland alone Most of his children were born in Greencastle, Franklin co PA. His first child was Elizabeth b 19 Jun 1826 in Greencastle, PA She m Leonard Alleman. The others were Henry, Catherine, Ann, Rebecca, Joseph, Susannah, Mary Martha, Sarah Malinda, John Victor, Daniel Webster, Michael Dallas, Laura Amanda, m John Angle Elliott, (my gr grandmother), Cunningham, and James Calvin. One can go to Ancestory Com and find many Gordons files. My 2nd ggrandfather John A. Gordon was born in Maryland in 1800. There are a lot John Gordons, just don't know if any of them is mine. There are Gordons that reach far back in Scotland to the Queens and Kings. No, I believe your right, as on the Frederick Co., Maryland Federal Census of 1860 he stated that he was born in Maryland. I know there is a book in the genealogy section of Wichita Public Library, and he and Margaret are listed in a book about Frederick County, Maryland, he was a farmer and one of his daughters was getting married. Right at the moment I don't have my files handed so I don't remember who she was marrying. Thanks, Dean A.
