    1. RE: Seeking Assistance from GORDON's
    2. Johnnie
    3. You have to remember there were so many Gordon-Gordens who came from Scotland, through Ireland that it is hard to locate without more specific inf. It's like a problem I have hit on with my mothers family, The Wehmeiers. There are so many Wehmeiers-Wehmeyer-Waymires in Germany that it is like Smith and Jones here. In all the years I have searched I have never found where he imgrated from Germany. I had found the same problem on the Gordon side until I found a cousin who had most of it done. Wow, was that a pleasure. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Gordon [mailto:jimgordon@netzero.net] Sent: Saturday, May 05, 2001 9:00 AM To: GORDON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Seeking Assistance from GORDON's Tom -- You might have better luck in getting answers if you were a little more specific in your time frame and location over here. The Irish have been emigrating to America since the 1600s. Your present query is equivalent to "I'm looking for John Smith in North Americas." 3. I am looking for info on Jesse Gordon and his father David. According to his Rev War pension papers he lived in the following places: - born in King and Queen County, VA, 1755 - moved to Surry Co, NC as a child (est. 1770) - served 3 months in the Rev War from Surry Co, NC - moved to Wilkes Co, GA, during the Rev War and served in Rev War there also (1777 -c1794) - received land in Franklin Co, GA, from his Rev War Service - moved to Greenville Co, SC abt 1796 and stayed there until abt 1801 (on 1800 census) - moved to Garrard Co, KY abt 1801 (on the 1802 tax list) - moved to Adair Co, KY abt 1802/03 (on the tax lists 1803-1810, on 1810 census, Adair Co) - moved to Madison Co, KY (on tax lists 1812-1816) - moved to Wayne Co, KY (on tax lists 1817 - 1823, on 1820 census, Wayne Co) - moved to Edmonson Co, KY (on 1828 tax list) - moved to Jackson Co, IL (829 - 1850, when he died) Some of the Gordon names I've found associated with him on the KY tax lists are Alban (Albin) Gordon, David Gordon (at least 3 different men), Samuel Gordon, Robert Gordon, William Gordon, Gilbert Gordon, Richard Gordon, Elijah Gordon and John Gordon. I don't know how, or even if, most of these Gordons are related to Jesse except that David Gordon's will (written 1814, probated 1816, Madison Co, KY) names his son Jesse and son Albin. I'd like to make contact with other descendants of Jesse, David or Albin Gordon. Mary Moyer ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 1. William B. Gordon
    2. Greg Gonzales
    3. Thought I would also throw out my genealogy challenge. I descend from a William B. Gordon that the census shows as being born abt. 1801 in NC. He married a Margaret Rogers, daughter of James and Anna Blair Rogers in Rhea Co., TN in 1824. Children were Elleanor who married Hardin Otha Green in Overton Co., TN after 1850 and Jane who married W.S. Gilliam in Rhea Co. before 1850. They may have also had a son who died early. William B. Gordon was very much involved with the Baptist Church. Moved his family to Overton Co. TN in the late 1840s. Then lived in Putnam Co., TN which was formed from Overton Co. and others. William B. died in the early 1870s and his wife just a few years thereafter. Any clues on the identity of his parents would be greatly welcomed. Thanks, Greg

    3. Hi: It is nice to see this list active and like a lot of you I have never been able to find any of my Gordon side of the family at all. Have been looking for them for a couple of years but no luck at all. I sure wish I could find someone related to at least one of them so I am going to repost my limited information again seeing there is so much activity on this site. Thank if any one can help at all. William Gordon was born someplace in Canada he married a lady by the first name of Ellen who was suppose to be born in New York State. Think this couple was married someplace in Michigan. Children from this marriage were: 1. Otis J. Gordon (1871-1932) my grandfather died in Montana born in Michigan 2. Ira Gordon (might have lived in the state of Washington 3. Faye Gordon 4. Myrtle Gordon 5. Elma Gordon 6. Verna Gordon 7. Jessie Gordon ( think married a man by last name of Johnson) Have seen lots of listing from the Gordon's but never too many from Canada into Michigan area. Can't even get a birth certificate on my grandfather as they do not have one in Michigan on him. Any Help Please! Thanks, Sharon

    1. Gordon, Clarence from Virginia
    2. Hello Everyone, I thought since there was some activity on this list, I might try mine request again. I am trying to find the parents of my Great Grandfather Clarence Sylvester Gordon born 7-9-1875 somewhere in Virginia. He died 3-19-1947 in San Bernardino, CA although he actually lived in Los Angeles CA. I ordered his Death cert, but his informant was someone other than his wife. It had his parents as unknown. He was married to Henerrita Catherine Frentz or Frantz, I have found her name spelled both ways on family records. She was born 8-9-1874 in Illinois. Their son Elmer Clarence Gordon was born 12-3-1902 in Los Angeles Ca, and he died 3-13-1950 in Los Angeles Ca. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tina Smith Huntington Beach CA

    2. I, too, have had no luck in finding my gg grandfather, John Gordon. He had a son Joseph Henry Gordon b. 1837 in Canada East who settled in Worcester, Mass. after coming through Vermont. Sure would be nice to find some of his siblings if there were any. I have not been pursuing the search, but my eyes are always open and watching. I have everything from Joseph Henry on down, but that's it. Elaine Gordon Bugbee

    3. Were either of your Obadiah's ever in Buckingham Co., VA? I have been frustrated for several years looking for the parents of my William Gordon. He was born August 25, 1799 somewhere in VA. He first surfaced in land records in Buckingham Co. in 1814. In an 1821 Buckingham Co., VA tax list there is an Obadiah Gordon living near him. A Notley Gordon lived in this area 1782-1793. Other Gordons who lived in close proximity to my William were an Archibald T. Gordon, Robert D. Gordon, Joseph Gordon, Samuel Gordon and Richard Gordon. (I have been told that this Richard was a son of Giles Gordon). I have been unable to determine William's relationship to these other Gordon men but they lived close to each other and I believe that they must have been related. My William had two marriages. His first wife is unknown but that marriage produced a daughter named Nancy Anise Gordon who married George Turner Pyle. His second marriage was to Rhoda McCormack or McCormick. William and Rhoda moved their family to Morgan Co., IN around 1835/36. I have been looking for a Gordon family in VA that used the name Obadiah. Can you tell me any more about your Obadiah's family? 1. Richard Gordon - VA - NC - GA
    2. Count my Gordons among the lost. On his RW pension application, Richard said he was born in Henry Co., VA on 17 Apr 1766. I know it wasn't Henry Co. in 1766, but that's what he said. He moved with his parents to Wilkes Co., NC, where he served with the militia in August 1781. He moved with his parents to Wilkes Co., GA, in Oct 1781. He moved with his parents to Franklin Co., GA in Aug 1782. After serving as an Indian scout at Walton's Fort for two years, he joined the militia again and left the area, never to return. I have no further information about his parents. Richard married in VA, moved to KY where his son James C. Gordon was born, and eventually settled down in Jackson Co., TN where he died after 1840. Jackson Co. has had a few fires, so records are sketchy. Don't know when or where James C. Gordon married Martha J. _?_, but their first child was born in Alabama. He then moved back to Jackson Co., TN, then to Davidson Co. in 1860 where I lose him again. His sons moved on to Robertson Co., TN. Please help. Joyce
