As follows is my great-grandmother and her then 8 sons immigration to America. My great-grandfather John Gordon arrived in West Liberty in 1862 and two years later sent for his family. G-Grandmother and her sons immigrated from Liverpool, England and landed at the Port of New York on the ship City of New York June 14, 1864. The family rode steerage. Passenger information: Elizabeth (Kelley) Gordon, age 40; Martin Gordon, age 18, laborer; Patrick Gordon, age 16, laborer; Thomas Gordon, age 14, laborer; John Gordon, age 7; James Gordon, age 6; Christopher Gordon, age 5; Peter Gordon, age 4; and William Gordon, age 3. Eight hundred thirty-four (834) steerage passengers boarded the CITY of NEW YORK in Liverpool. Twenty-five (25) of the passengers died on the voyage to America and were presumably buried at sea. Most of the deceased were very young children. My grandmother Mary Elizabeth (Gordon) Roll was born in West Liberty in 1867 and her youngest brother Michael was born in 1869. I would like to correspond with any person relative to my Gordon family. Tom Roll
Charles; None of your names are in my family but I don't know when or how Michael Gordon came to America from Scotland, but it's not likely he came alone. He was b 6 Jan 1799. The time period you list means they could have come together. Michael's wife Annie Hawbaker/Habeccer/Habegger was from Lancaster co PA Their fifteen children were (Shudder!) Catherine, Elizabeth, Henry H, Anna, Rebekka, Joseph, Susannah, Mary Martha, Sarah Malinda, John Victor, Daniel Webster, Michael Dallas, Laura Amanda (my gr grandmother), Cunningham, James Calvin. I also have their spouses and of course, my line. Catherine, the oldest child was b 15 May 1821. She m John Teeter 19 Mar 1846 and she died 23 Oct 1905. Most of the children were b in Greencastle, Franklin co PA starting with the 4th child Anna. Before that they were not listed. Earl H. Richard, How about that! We have a task-master. Makes you feel like a first-grader, doesn't it? Pretty soon there will be no one on the list. I plan to unsubscribe to David Sylvester's list.
