    3. Sheila: Would you look up George, William or Alexander Gordon in your book, Gordons of the Deep South. George is my ggggrandfather, Alexander was his father and William was his grandfather. They came from Scotland in 1774 and settled in what is now Iredell County, NC, George later moved to Georgia in 1819 and then to Illinois. You mentioned that several families moved from NC to other states, is there some reason or were they just restless. Any help would be appreciated Chuck Gordon

    3. Sheila, I am very interested in the "Gordons of the Deep South". That is "my" branch also and there are some very confusing mysteries. Do you know where I can obtain a copy. I would be willing to pay a premium to get it. If not, could you see if there is any information before John Gordon (b abt 1710 Prince William Co, VA and d. 1756 in SC, married to Ruth ?). Also, can you find a connection to Gordons who were in Giles County, TN about 1820-1840? John's ggranddaughter Elizabeth Emmaline (Posey's daughter) in Greene County, AL seems to have spent time in Giles County, TN after both of her parents died while she was still a minor. There she married my gggrandfather U. H. Anderson, but I could never figure why she was there...or he in AL. There were several Gordons as neighbors to Andersons in Brick Church community of Giles Co. TN, but I have never made a connection. Thanks for you help, Hurston Anderson >Hello Kathy-----I have a book by Erminie Marshall of TX called Gordons of the >Deep South. I looked up your Daisy Belle but don't have her. 3. Hello Sheila, would you mind looking up my family in your book to see what surfaces? My Ggrandmother was Sarah Jane Elizabeth Gordon, b. 1853 in MS. We believe her parents to be Wade H. Gordon, b 1825 AL, who married a Nancy ?, born 1821. Wade's father was Isaac Gordon (b. 1788, Spartanburg Co. SC) and mother was Rebecca Arnold (Millie) (b 1812 SC). If my family is there, I would be interested in buying the same book and would like to know how you found it. I've been looking for other books on different lines without much success. Thanks so much, Lois Clifton BTW, Sarah Jane married Wm. Dunwood Bowen (b . circa 1847) and they lived in the vicinity of Calhoun Co. MS. These are my mother's grandparents and we're having quite a time finding family connections. 1. Gordon of Early Kentucky

    3. Hello, I am seeking a mysterious Gordon, who married Margaret Couts b. circa 1760. The union produced Susannah Gordon b.circa 1780 who married Phillip P. Freeman. The early Couts came from Augusta Co. Va, [1754-1781], by way of PA [1750] and Germany. Mr. Gordon was probably Capt.John Gordon, Indian fighter in 1794 or Thomas Gordon on of the earliest settlers of Kentucky. Margaret was listed as Margaret Couts and Susannah as Susannah Couts in Margaret's Uncle's will. They were extremely late in collecting their inheritance. But, reference was made in other documents that Margaret was married to a Gordon. I will happily share what information we have.....Barbara Couts Evans http://www.syix.com/bevans/barbara/couts.html

    1. "Flash Gordon"
    2. Electronic Telegraph Saturday 10 May 1997 Gynaecologist with a reputation for his skill and panache DAVID GORDON, who has died aged 72, was a leading gynaecologist and for more than 30 years the senior consultant at Epsom District Hospital. As a surgeon "Flash Gordon" won admiration for the speed and excellence of his work. He showed the same panache in his leisure pursuits, which may be loosely categorised as wine, women and skiing. Gordon hated to waste time; if he was bored at a dinner party would simply get up and leave. Hospital staff quaked at his approach, though those who came to know him regarded him with affection and loyalty. David William Somerville Gordon was born on Jan 4 1925 at Kohat, on the North West Frontier, the son of a brigadier with the 2/8th Gurkha Rifles. At eight he was sent home to live with an aunt at Lyme Regis, and later sent to Wellington. When Gordon was 16 his mother and his sister died in the same year. But he was already set on his course, and passed his first MB while still at Wellington. Going on to St Mary's, Paddington, he studied through the war years and qualified at the age of 21. During his National Service he played an active role in Palestine. Later he became Medical Officer with the Honourable Artillery Company, a Territorial Regiment. Gordon achieved his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons at the age of 25. He went on to become a fellow of the Royal Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and of the Royal College of Medicine. Appointed the senior consultant at Epsom in 1959, Gordon was instrumental in modernising the gynaecological department there. He also developed a large private practice in Wimpole Street. Despite the pressure of work, and the inevitable night calls, he was never known to have a day off sick. David Gordon was buried with a bottle of Beaujolais and his favourite ski-pole. He married first, in 1952 (dissolved 1975) Gill Bebb; they had three daughters. He married secondly, in 1978, Susi Galvin-Wright. Don (Arizona)
