    1. New GenConnect board for Gordon queries & info
    2. Doug Gordon
    3. The "GenConnect" service of RootsWeb has a growing number of forum-style boards where people can post queries and discuss genealogical issues. A new board has just been created for the GORDON surname. To get to it, you can go to http://www.rootsweb.com and click on "GenConnect" in the left sidebar, or to go directly there, http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/gor/Gordon Those of you with Gordon-related websites might also want to link to this URL. GenConnect is similar to GenForum, but without the advertising :-). It is also unique in the ability for you to be directly notified by an e-mail message if someone responds to your post. In other words, you don't have to keep checking back. Also, if you include your surnames in the appropriate box when making your query, it all ends up in the master Rootsweb database where it can be searched for, etc. Give it a try -- let's see if we can track down more of those elusive Gordon ancestors! -- Doug Gordon (board administrator)

    1. Re: Gordon's of the South
    2. Hi Judy, I'm also researching the surname GORDON. Mine lived in Jacksonville, Fla. in 1880. All I know so far is Louisa Gordon (don't know husband's name or her maiden name) there was no husband listed (widowed) son's names are David and Edward. They were Roman Catholic and Edward married Eugenia Ferreira in the Church of the Immaculate Conception on June 23, 1880 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Fla. There is a slight chance Louisa's maiden name was PONS and her family lived in Fernandina Beach, Fla (as per the 1850 census). Age would be right as she was 19 in 1850 and 49 in 1880. Louisa's husband may have been named Edward (hunch) and may have been born in New York City. There was also an Edward Gordon that lived in Jacksonville, Fla.(about 30 miles from Fernandina) in 1850 as per the census. Any help would be greatly appreciated..........Eydie

    2. Hello Hurston. I have just a few minutes, will get back to you next week. Ermine's book on the Gordons was published in 1961 in Austin, TX by the Steck Co. I understand they are out of business(so I was told). A cousin told me that she had contacted a company that sells genealogy books, sorry I don't remember the name ,and she was told that they could make a copy of the book for her for one hundred and forty-eight dollars!!!! That was at least ten or twelve years ago. I don't have any data on John and Ruth before 1734 and no info on Ruth's maiden name. Did you know that Ruth married Abraham Anderson after John died? He had a bunch of kids and I couldn't helo but wonder about your Uriah Anderson. Wonder if there is a connection. Must run, will write more later. God bless, Sheila

    3. Hi Chuck, You wouldn't know where in Scotland your Gordons came from would you? george william and Alexander are common names from that period, but those as the typical male names in my Gordon line as well. My gggg grandfather was William Gordon, born about 1767, I think in Aberdeenshire. His sons where William, George, James, Alexander and Charles (who is my ggg grandfather). The sons were all born in Pisligo Parish, Aberdeenshire, between 1795 and 1812.
