On 31 July 1840 Charles P. Gordon was assigned the north half of section 24, Twonship 16-N, Rance 28-E, St. Stephens Meridian, in Russell Co., Alabama. This land was originally the property of a Creek Indian. This information was found at: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/asp/patinfo.asp?AccessionNumber=AL5050__.270 A copy of the paper can be view at this site. At the top of the paper there is a note saying, "Pat. sent to [looks like] Jos. Bryan Oct 13, 1840." Charles Gordon, s/o Thomas Gordon and Mary Buffington, married Dorcas Bryan. Is the Charles P. Gordon of the patent this Charles Gordon? Does anyone know anything about his descendants? Margaret McCleskey, Arlington, TX
I have some Gordon relatives around the Mckeey's Port area in Pittsburgh. Does this sound like the area your family is in? Tom Gordon ps please send your family line in 1800's if you have.
Dear Margaret - You have found one - me. I am a descendant of Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of Thomas Gordon and Mary Buffington. How can I help you, though most likely it will be you that knows more than me. I'm searching for a John GORDON also. Actually for his parents. My John is: John Davidson GORDON (Sr), b: July 10, 1885 in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, d: March 31, 1966 in Las Vegas, San Miguel, New Mexico. His father was a George GORDON. His mother was Elizabeth who died giving birth. JDG was apprenticed to a gardner at the Balmoral Castle and later immigrated with his older brother Robert. I believe they came first to St John, New Brunswick, Canada as he married a Lucy Emily CAMPBELL there on June 7, 1910. Their second child (Andrew Murray GORDON) was my Grandfather. Any information on George, Robert and/or Elizabeth would be appreciated. P.S. For any of you true Scotish GORDONs, please no jokes about him marrying a CAMPBELL.
In 1836 three brothers, Charles, James and Thomas Gordon moved to Crawford Springs in Walker Co. from Gwinnett Co. These men were sons of Thomas Gordon and Mary Buffington. I am looking for anyone who is researching the descendants of any of these men. Margaret McCleskey, Arlington, TX

Sheila: Thank you for your help. Chuck Gordon
I was hoping that some kind person could help me out with my GORDON problem. I have JEAN GORDON marrying CHARLES GLASS in Birse Aberdeenshire in 1798. The 1851 census states that JEAN is from Glenmuick. When I checked the parish records, she is there, in fact two of them, six months apart - Does anyone what any ideas on identifying which line is the correct one? Sharon
Hello Mark---I don't have your David. Sheila
Chuck, I checked Gordons of the Deep South for your folks but don't have any connection. The area of NC which the Gordons first moved into was under a Royal Land Grant from George III. The land was disputed land and was finally ruled to actually be part of SC. Most of the families that moved decided to do so because of good land. They were, for the most part, planters. God bless, Sheila
Do you have the birthdate for the James G mentioned in you email? Bob
