I'm sorry, but our Hughs do not seem to match. [email protected]
To [email protected] I see you are interested in a Hugh Gordon born 1740. I am trying to find the origins and parentage of my ggg-grandfather Hugh Gordon, born South Carolina, 1788. Any clues for me? Bill Gordon
I am not new, either--just been away for awhile. My brick wall is my gr.grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Gordon b. abt. 1843/45 [Ala. ?]. Married Lucrettia Bushnell in Louisiana abt. 1865 [St. Landry Parish]. They settled in Calcasieu Parish, LA and raised 5 children, including my grandfather, William Cornelius Gordon b. 1869 who married Laurastine Marcantel. Our courthouse in Calcasieu Parish burned down in 1910 and all our precious documents were lost. Story in our family says; my grandfather, William C., used to take journeys "across the river" to visit his relatives. He would be gone several days, catching rides as he could, and it was understood that he crossed the Mississippi River--so this would most likely be into Mississippi. 1870 Census[ LA] gives Thomas Jefferson's place of birth as Alabama. Thomas Jefferson and Lucrettia's children were named James, Thomas Samuel, William Cornelius,John, Madora, Idolph and Adolph[twins]. James and Thomas Samuel died young. Looking for the parents of Thomas Jefferson Gordon. Ethel.
Norma, To whom was your Rosanna married to. Was Gordon her married name or maiden name. There is a Rosanna Gordon who was married to John Gordon Jr. She was his second wife. They lived in Copiah County, MS. Sheila
Sheila, You have found my brick wall. I have no idea who John's parents or grandparents were. I have only been on my Gordon family trail for a short time. More time and research will happen. So more later. Pat
I am not new to the list, but have a brick wall it seems, I am desperately trying to find the parents of my Great, Great, Grandmother, ROSANNA GORDON. She was born in Camden, Tennessee in 1836. There must be someone out there who knows of a GORDON family in Camden in the 1830's. Can anyone help me? I am about to give up. Thanks for any and all help. Norma [email protected]

Bill Gordon: Where in Illinois did your line finally settle. My line left Georgia in 1839 and settled in Henderson County, Ill. My ggggrandfather was George Gordon. I am trying to find out if he had any other members of his fathers family that came from Scotland with them in 1774. Chuck Gordon
I just subscribed today so am new at the protocol here. My Gordon line are Scotch-Irish. Are any of you members related to the John Gordon line from Rathfryland and Banbridge in County Down, Ireland? This John was born sometime before 1732 and md Mary__?__. Their 3 children were: John, Mary and Janet; the family was of Tullyconnaught in Seapatrick parish. John (the elder's) probate is dated 1778 and the executors were Geo. Mullholland and Walter Crawford; witnesses were John Knox, Thomas Cumming and John Egar. Mary, the daughter, md a man whose surname was Kelton, n.f.i. Janet the daughter md Samuel Gordon of Glaskerbeg, near Banbridge. The younger John was born abt 1755 and died in 1836 in County Down, in Ireland. He md 1792 at Banbridge, Co. Down, Eliz. Boggs, dau. of Hans Boggs of Loughbrickland. Executors for John, the younger's will, were Rev. Alex Orr, Thomas Woods and Andrew Mulligan. John, the younger and wife Eliz (Boggs) had 7 children, some of whom came to the US in the 19th century: James Arhcibald of Tullyconnaugth and Banbridge--unmd. Hans who became a surgeon--he was of Tullyconnaught, Banbridge and Dublin Jane (my line) born abt 1803 who md Hance Cumming in in1831 at Banbridge and came to the US--to NY City and soon after to Ontario, Canada to what is present-day Brant Co.--they went to Waukesha Co, WI in 1845; she died in 1846 Mary who md David Graham and had no ch. Eliz. - unmd Sarah who md John Hodge of New York -the had no ch. John b. abt 1803 and d. 1861; md Eliz. Nelson. They had a huge family: John, David, Annie, Eliz., Bessie, Sarah (who md Jos. McGladdery) , Emily )who md Hugh Graham), John, Robert, Mary (who md Isaac Barr) and others. I have other Gordon lines from County Down, who appear to be related. I'd like to hear from anyone with ties to County Down, Ireland and/or who recognize a link to this line. Carol Ashby

I have been reading the mail regarding Gordon's in SC who went to AL and MS. Although I have not found my ancestor among them, it seems possible that they were related. Here is my "problem" ancestor: William Gordon b. ca 1825 in Ireland. He was in Fairfield District, SC in the 1850 census, aged 25. His mother, Elizabeth, aged 50, was in the household with him and his wife, Elizabeth Jane Farrar. We do not know his father's name or any siblings. However, we do believe he had a brother, Robert, b. ca 1820 in Ireland. Robert and William and their wives were members of Old Lebanon Church then both went to Winston/Choctaw County, MS and became members of Bethsalem Presbyterian Church. William's wife, Elizabeth Jane Farrar, was a daughter of William Farrar. Her mother was from Ireland. My theory is that our Gordon's went to SC where they already had relatives. According to the family, they went from Ireland to SC in the 1830's. If anyone has any info or ideas, I would appreciate hearing them. Thanks in advance. Sue
