    3. Ann, Do you happen to know if there were other siblings. I am desperately hunting the parents of my g-g-grandfather, George Alexander Gordon, who was born in 1822 in Georgia. He was on the Scott Co. MS 1850 census, had moved to Cherokee Co., TX by 1857 and died in Bosque Co., TX in the 1880's. 1. Gordon's from Rochester
    2. Laura Annette Smith
    3. Hello, I am new to the list and am trying to find information on my grandfather, Jerome David Gordon. He was born in Rochester, NY between 1906-1908. I know he had one brother and one sister and that his father's name was Nathan Gordon. Jerome briefly attended the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa in 1927. Other than that, I believe he may have lived in Los Angeles in 1939. I would appreciate any information anyone may have regarding Jerome or his father Nathan, or news on a possible link. Thank you, Laura Smith

    3. My suspicion is that you will have a good deal of response with these Gordons. They sound as if they are from the Union District SC Gordons covered quite extensively in the book Gordons of the Deep South. I do not have a copy, but many on the list have offered to look up in the past. good luck, Hurston Anderson>I am new to this list and hoping for help in connecting my GGG grandmother, >Elizabeth GORDON to Eli GORDON. >Both are buried in Prospect Cemetery, Chickasaw County, MS. > >Elizabeth b. 18 July 1810 South Carolina > d. 2 April 1887 Chickasaw County, MS, > wife of Barnet G. 3. Laura, I assume that your grandfather is dead. If you can prove that, the University of Alabama might let you have copies of his records there. 1. Gordon's of County Down, Ireland
    2. I'm a new subscriber. I want to share with those Gordon descendants from County Down, Ireland, a wonderful source book for locating your Gordons in County Down. As I am new, I don't know if the name of this book is 'old hat' to readers, if so, please forgive my going over old information. While in Salt Lake City researching my Scotch-Irish Gordon line some years ago, I found the below book in the card catalogue and viewed it page by page, finding my line in County Down. It is a handwritten manuscript and although quite readable, not as easy as typescript. Crossle groups his Gordons as well as he can, sites his sources, goes to inexhaustible lengths to link Gordons and gives very educated opinions on Gordon lines. He puts families together in many cases with line charts (which is where I found mine, followed by all pertinent info taken from wills). I found it confusing on one count, which is that he organizes the book, for instance, by the 'Sheepsbridge' Gordons and other place names which may have been well-known regional farms, but not known to researchers not familiar with County Down names of this nature. Still, there are enough references for one to figure out where these are. It can only be hoped that one day someone will put the book to the keyboard, index it, and indicate the nearest townlands to the place names. Even if you've traced your Gordons back in County Down, having not read this book, I urge you to read it anyway and add the wealth of knowledge to your notes on related lines. GORDONS OF IRELAND by Philip Crossle British Film Area #0100219, item 2-3 filmed 1949. Manuscript in the Genealogical Office of Ireland. Microfilm copy of original manuscript and typescript (ca. 650) at the Genealogical Dept. of Dublin, IRE. Pedigrees, notes, newspaper articles and correspondence on the Gordon and related families of Ireland. Good luck! Carol Ashby 5655 NW 113th Street Grimes, Iowa 50111

    2. MR RAMON D MCGOUGH
    3. If you are researching Chapman Gordon's line, there is a wonderful article in the Confederate Veteran (a huge collection of books available in most larger libraries) written by Sarah Chapman Gordon- Law. It is a pamphlet written for her nieces and nephews detailing her experiences as "The Mother of the Confederacy". A nickname she earned for her tireless efforts as a nurse and humanitarian during the C/W. There is even a picture of her in the article. If you don't have access to the Confederate Veteran, please send your snail mail and I will send you a copy. Janice [email protected]

In case any others do not know, you can write to the National DAR office & request a copy of anyone's ORIGINAL application papers. It is best to look in a DAR LINEAGE BOOK to locate someone who has gone into DAR on one of your ancestors. Kathy states that she got her GORDON information from Volume 109. These books are found in most any Genealogy Library. Kathy has listed DAR Members & their membership number. If you find one of your ancestors that someone has gone into DAR on, you can write to the NSDAR - give name of DAR Member the Surname & Membership number: NATIONAL SOCIETY DAUGHTERS of the AMERICAN REVOLUTION 1776 D Street NW Washington, DC 20006-5392 I was recently told that the cost of a copy is now $5.00. If it is your line, it gives all the documentation used to prove the relationship and either check marks on proofs or notes by the person who checked on the documentation. Also, that they are far behind and it takes awhile to get the record.
