Hello, Sorry for the confusion from my earlier posting regarding Annibel GORDON. Information I received indicates she was in Woodbridge, VA after 1660. I found her spouse's (George BROWN) family on the LDS Ancestral File as being in Woodbridge, NJ. I am confused, obviously, and would love to hear from someone who might have information about this family. My VA source suggests she was born in Scotland, but a LDS IGI citation suggests she was born in NJ. If she was born in NJ, then a GORDON family must have been located there. Does anyone have information regarding a GORDON family in NJ in the 1600s? Would love to hear from anyone with a GORDON family in either NJ or VA in the 1600s. Gordon
I am seeking the ancestry of Annibell GORDON who I believe was born about 1661 in Scotland. I believe she was the wife of George BROWN, and they immigrated to Woodbridge, Virginia. I do not know if they were married in Scotland or VA. They were the parents of James BROWN, b. 8 Nov 1693. Would very much like to hear from anyone researching this line, or from anyone with suggestions regarding useful resources to pursue. I would be happy to share the descent from George and Annibel with anyone having an interest. Gordon Kirkemo [email protected]

Dear Ann: The book is out of print. I borrowed the book from one of your distant cousins and copied it. If you don't have any luck finding a copy, let me know and I'll copy my copy. As you search up there, please keep a look out for my gggrandfather, John H. Gordon. Wife Suzanne. Sons, Robert, George, Jeff D and John Jr. I am still trying to prove they are descendants from John and Ruth. Good luck to you. Pat Spencer

Thanks to all of you for the great information on Elizabeth GORDON and her family. I have quite a bit on her husband and the SIMS family. You have given me great leads and agreed with some of my previous assertions. I am still digesting all that Sheila Wood shared. The Cemetery at Prospect UMC (used to be Prospect Baptist Church) is a fascinating find. It is full of these Gordons and related families. I now need to make another trip there. (I grew up in Tupelo and still have property and family there. My Sims cousin and I make cemetery trips when I am there.) As Pat Spencer noted, Elizabeth's gravestone contains the name and dates for her son Lycurgus. Actually it is a four sided column which has Elizabeth's name and dates on one side, husband Barnet on one side, son Lycurgus on one side, and son P.H. on the fourth. We doubt that anyone other than Elizabeth is actually interred there. Does anyone know if this was a common practice? Both the sons died in the civil war. We suspect that the bodies were never sent home. Barnet is reported by some to have died while they were still in Pickens County, AL. Does anyone have any evidence of this? AND -- How do I get a copy of this book that several of you seem to have "Gordons of the Deep South"? I may be able to find one at the Georgia Archives, but it sounds like a book I would like to own. Thanks again. Ann Downing

You have had such good information on some Gordons that I wonder if anyone on this website would have any info on mine? I would appreciate any help that you might give me. I am trying to take this line back into Scotland and I need all of the help I can get. If I have posted this before, please excuse. Joyce, this is a total "shot in the dark", but anyway: My Great Grandfather, Drury Akers, married Mary Gordon in Montgomery County, Virginia October 2, 1833. No father is listed for Mary Gordon, only a mother, Sarah Gordon who was in a census about 1850 in the home of a Thomas Henning, who happened to be one of the witnesses at the wedding. I've been totally in the dark as to the lineage of these ladies and yours is the first post that might possibly have a clue. Are these ladies at all familiar to you? Hello Cousin Ann Your Gordon's are part of the Gordons Of The Deep South, Eli on page 108 and Elizabeth on page 106. They were siblings. I will send you their line shortly. Harold
My earliest proved Gordon ancestor is James C. Gordon, born about 1805 in KY. Strong circumstancial evidence leads me to believe his father was Richard Gordon, and Richard stated on his Revolutionary War pension application that he was born in Henry Co., VA. in April 1766. Once when I was on the Henry County GenWeb page I found three Gordon families living there that were in the proper time frame for one of them to have been his parents. However, I've been unable to find that information on that site again. I could have been on one of the neighboring counties from which Henry was formed -- I just don't recall. But if anyone knows of any Gordons who were in Henry County prior to 1781 when Richard had moved on to Wilkes Co., NC, I would sure like to hear from you. Thanks. Joyce .
