    2. Catriona Kelly
    3. Hi all. I have found two points of information recently that say I have GORDON relatives, so have joined the list in case anyone can help or I can help someone else. 1) On the IGI site I found the birth of my 3g grandfather, James MARSHALL son of Robert and Mary MARSHALL (nee GORDON). Robert and Mary were married "Abt 1792" Paisley, Renfrew. James was born (there are two entries) "abt 1794" Antrim, Ireland and "abt 1797" Belfast, Antrim. I presume these were submitted by an individual tracing the same family. 2) A letter written in 1888 by Bella MARSHALL of Michigan to her cousin, Catherine MCALLISTER, in Brisbane, Australia states that "I had a letter from Mamma yesterday in which she mentions having just recd a picture of Rachel GORDON and her husband. Also a native woman and child". Bella MARSHALL and Catherine MCALLISTER are relatives of mine and I presume that Rachel GORDON was related to Bella MARSHALL, but wouldn't have been related to Catherine MCALLISTER. I have no idea where Rachel was living for her to have sent a picture of a "native woman" to her relatives. Anybody recoginse any of the above names / places? Regards, Catriona KELLY Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

    3. Tina, I have a Farrel Gordon (b. ca 1811), his wife Bridget (Rooney, b. ca 1812), their 9 children: Barclay, Pat, Mary, Bridget, Denis, Martin, Ann, Farrel and Catherine, and Farrel's older brother Patrick (b. ca 1806, apparently married and widowed before 1851), who were all born in Ireland (with the possible exception of the youngest two children) and moved to Scotland (Renfrew, then Govan) in about 1850. I don't have an exact location in Ireland, but several other branches of my family have been traced back to Co. Antrim (Glenwhirry and Larne), and I suspect they may have come from that area as well. There is a strong possibility that Bridget (the wife) died between 1851 and 1855, as there is a marriage record for a Farrel Gordon and Mary Creaton, which led to the birth of another Farrel Gordon in 1857. Un- fortunately there are not other details in the marriage record (no parent's names, etc.) Please let me know if any of these names ring a bell. Cliff [email protected]

    1. Re: Hugh Gordon
    2. Barbara I find that some places say that Hugh was born in Scotland and others say VA. I need proof substantiating exactly which place. I also find some sources say his father was James others say Hugh(SR.) Do you have proof on either of these facts? I would love finding facts on the Gordon line as far back as possible. I want to do that on all of my lines. I suppose I am wanting the impossible, but that is why I keep working. I hope to find a line that will lead to a Magna Charta Surety. That would be great. Thanks for answering my query. I don't believe that we have contacted one another before. Is that correct? In case we have not I come through their daughter Mary who married Anderson Jeffries. I continue with the Jeffries line down to my paternal Grandmother (Sallie) who married Clarence Lawson. My maiden name was Lawson. How are you connected to Hugh and his wife? If you don't mind telling me. It sounds like we are some sort of cousins. I have found so many relatives since I have been contacting different people on the many lines on which I work. That is a lot of fun! I look forward to hearing from you. Viola Viola L. Van Orden
