    2. Charles, Apparently there is another Jim Gordon on the genealogy site at the same time, so I don’t know which of us you want, but as for me, my Gordons started in Co. Donegal, Ireland, and came to this country about 1820. None of them or their offspring went where you designate—Warren Co., IL—to my knowledge. We largely hail from Morgan Co., IL, at least a century ago with many sub-families still in that area. James C. Gordon Hinsdale, IL

    3. John --- 'Pears we're not related. Sometime after the Revolutionary War, my Gordons and a lot of their neighbors had moved up country to Hancock County. BTAIM, I have a few questions: 1) Where was "In the great fire of '47 in Maine the family homestead was burned down. . .?" Was it in York, York Harbor, York Beach or just York County? If just York County, where in York County? Do you have a description of it? 2) Just when did the brothers come over from Scotland? 3) Any idea of how many generations between the brothers and George of Kennebunk? -- Cheers, Jim Gordon, Laurel, MD USA [email protected] wrote: > > Hi listers! > Thanks for all the welcoming emails! > Here's the info I'm starting with- > over 30 years ago, my Great Aunt Winnie told me the first Gordons in our line > were 4 brothers, Mark, Matthew, Luke and John, who came over from Scotland. > In the great fire of '47 in Maine the family homestead was burned down, a > total loss, with all of her Grandfather's Civil War things lost. 3. Hi John; I was quite surprised reading your lineage. Before that, it appeared to me that all the Maine Gordons were descended from Alexander (1)Gordon and Mary Lisson. Apparently not from your work. I am looking for a Mark Gordon born 1700, place unknown. His dau, Abigail m. Jonathan Bean 14 Sep 1745 in Candia, Rockingham, NH. He was said to be a descendant of Alexander(1) Gordon and Mary Lisson. I can offer you a gedcom of the descendants of Alexander if you want, but I don't think it will help you any. Let me know if you want it. 3. Don, Probably out of the league of subject matter...just happened to put your last name of Boyd together with the Gordon from Canada...just happens that I am searching for my ggrandfather George Alexander Gordon, who we believe may have come from the Three Rivers area, who married a Matilda Boyd from Plattsburg, NY...could we, by chance, have a link here?
