    1. Re: Jesse Gordon born 1755, King and Queen County, VA
    2. I'm not familiar with Jesse Gordon from King and Queen Co., VA, but, because of the location and timeframe, I'm quite interested in the possibility that he might have been related to my "brick wall" Gordon. Here is everything I "know" about my ancestor Jane Gordon: From "A Genealogy and Family Memorial" by Joseph Sullivant (1874), p. 29: "Her father (no first name given) was a Doctor. The author feels he was a Doctor of Divinity and not a physician as some noted. They were of Clan Gordon and claimed relationship with Earls of Gordon. The author thinks father was an Episcopal clergyman. A Major Gordon, British officer who fell at Quebec with Gen. Wolf, was a cousin of Jane's. Jane's family settled in King William Co., VA some time before 1740. They appear to have come from Scotland as first reference to father is "a Scottish physican". Jane and William Starling had 3 children, William, Roderic and Sally. Both William and Jane died young. William only 26 and Jane died only 3 years later. The children became under the care and guardianship of Colonel William Lyne. Young William married Susanna Lyne, daughter of their guardian. This did not please the Colonel and he moved to Boydtown, Mecklenburg Co., VA where they lived for many years. He served as Sheriff of the County." If there are any ideas about a connection between my Jane Gordon and this Jesse Gordon, I'd love to hear about it. Thank you very much. Best Regards, Don Boyd Fairborn, Ohio USA

    3. There is a web page for Three Rivers Historical Society. I don't have the URL at hand, but just put in the name in Yahoo or Infoseek search engine and it should come up for you. The members of the Society have gone to the county and made copies of the records there and soft bound them into copies that you can buy. They have indexed most of them. It is a great place to research if you have roots there. They have also indexed a lot of the cemeteries in the county too. They have some records from Marion, Georgetown and Sumter too. Not as extensive as Williamsburg Co. though. They also will make copies of family files and send those to you for cost of copying, plus $5.00, I think. It has been a while since I ordered anything, but I got it promptly. Mrs. Nell Morris, the librarian there is a treasure. If you have a question, she can pretty much point you in the right direction. She even called a Gordon researcher that lives in the old homestead to come and meet my sis. and me. It was quite a day!!! The list of publications are on the web site. We have a lot of the books here at the Orlando library and I can look up something for you if you see a book that you think may have info for you, but don't want to pay $20.00 to find out. Really, though, they will pretty much tell you if your family is in there. They are that friendly and helpful. 3. There are people subscribed to these mail lists who use the list to compile addresses for lists of their own. The e-mail may be "legitimate", however, whenever in doubt don't open any attachments or click on any hyperlink and delete it immediately from your system by emptying any trash that your program may have for deleted items. In addition, be sure that you have an anti-virus program installed on your system, run it daily and update it regularly and religiously. Better to be safe than sorry. 3. Usually, if an email address isn't legitimate, you will recieve a notice of non-delivery if mail is sent to the address. When I receive an unknown email containing a URL, I click reply and ask the person how they found my address. If it isn't a legitmate address, I get my mail back.
