I have found an APPLEBY man on the Incoming Passenger list of the Orduna which arrived from New York in Liverpool on 12 may 1916. His name appears under a handwritten heading 'Deported Passengers'. I've gone through all the pages for the Orduna's crossing and he is one of only six men (all aged between 23-36 and formerly resident of the USA) who are listed under this heading. The only other individuals recorded as being deported on this crossing were a family group of a mother with 6 children. I have not been able to find a record of the Outgoing Passenger list for the Orduna which might have provided a few more clues. Please can any one point me to a source of information regarding the possible circumstances resulting in such deportations? I do know that he emigrated in 1913.
