There are other alternatives for this source. For some years now I have been searching Griffith's survey and viewing corresponding survey pages and maps for free at the Ask About Ireland site http://www.askaboutireland.ie/ It's nice to be able to locate actual farms, when you can believe the notation on the maps. Unfortunately, the numbering for individual locations on the maps does not always correspond to the numbering in the actual survey. When you look at the image of the actual valuation entry in Griffith you will see a plot number in the outermost left-hand column. This is the number that you look for in the townland, once you have found the map using Richard’s helpful instructions. BTW, what you will actually see is the OS 6-inch sheet on which the townland is mapped, so you unless you’re very lucky you may have to hunt around a bit for the townland itself. It helps if you have a vague idea of where it is in the locale - checking a modern OSI map (I use the Discovery 500 series) or the OSI website first can be useful. I’ve emailed FMP to enquire why there isn’t a direct link to the relevant OS sheet from the results page. This was the way the Origins site used to work, as far as I remember.
