The recent messages about the Derby Scheme are very interesting. My grandfather apparently enlisted in this way in 1915, but it was some years before he was sent to the front. Unfortunately, his officer's war service record has not survived. Does anyone know if the detail of the Derby Scheme census survived? I have searched the TNA web site, but I can't see any sign of it. As it happens one of our Parish Priests is Chaplain to the Buffs Regimental Assoc'n and a battlefield guide to WW1 battlefields; he is very knowledgeable and tells me that the "Notice" referred to was handed to the recruit when he attested, he had to read it and acknowledge that he had done so. Fr K likened the "Notice" to terms and conditions of enlistment!
