I have a couple of small photos, one scanned from a newspaper (very grainy) and another which is quite dark. Is there anyone out there, with the skills to 'improve' them and who is willing to have a go for me. If you can help - please to me directly. Thanks Sue Horsman 3446 Hors(e)man
Since newspaper photos are halftone - they will always conflict with pixel based scans. One of the problems is that halftone dots are round and pixels are square. There are a couple of work arounds for this. 1. Select descreen in your scanner's settings and change the resolution to 600 dpi. 2. Scan in grayscale and not RGB. 3. Apply the unsharp mask in your photo software. This will be as good as it gets - but can be quite effective, but will never be perfect. Another solution is to photograph the image and then manipulate the various dust and scratches filters in your photo editing software. Again, it's not perfect, but will get rid of some of the graininess. Jim -- Jim James M. Sue, if you don't get any answers, there are folk on the rootschat forum who will improve photos if you post them there http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php (free photo restoring and dating section) Corinne Curtis #5579 On Fri, Nov 14, 2014 at 8:55 AM, S Horsman via <goons@rootsweb.com> wrote: > I have a couple of small photos, one scanned from a newspaper (very > grainy) and another which is quite dark. Sue, I'm willing to try to improve them. I have had moderate success with dark photos managing to extract the picture from one of the colour channels. Grainy pictures are a bigger challenge and might not subject themselves to improvement, but I'll try.
